this trip has been in the planning for some time i think at least since 2008.

Interesting move.
The DRF has shunned the Middle Eastern royals in the past so it will be interesting to see how this trip pans out. IMO it should have been a joint visit, not just Fred.

Wow, there are A LOT of rules of etiquette to learn in order to make a visit to Saudi Arabia. I'm sure they have somebody training him on the do's and don'ts but I don't know if he will be able to handle it.
Mary isn't going with him?

Doesn't Queen Magrethe speak arab or did I dream that? Anyway, one thing I know I didn't dream is that Queen Magrethe has actually in her previous new year speeches, in the 80'es, 90'es I think when immigration started in Denmark, pointed at danes for not integrating well and being racist and encouraged a more open mind and a better integration for immigrants, that in Denmark especially come from the Middle East. It was something like, "since I am myself married to an immigrant", and "danes tend to come with dumb-smart comments", something like that ... That's one thing I've liked about royalty - IF they can set an example, because the new year speech is something at least a million danes watch if I understood well. |

To my knowledge M doesn't speak Arab. She did visit Saudi Arabia in 1984 where she received a fabulous diamond necklace.
