It will be interesting (ahem) when it is Derfie´s turn. He can´t put two sentences together without getting into an unintelligible labyrinth of words... What will the Danes think then?

Surely he'll have speech writers and teleprompter etc. He can't wing it but can he "read" a speech?

He can´t if he is nervous - and that is his problem. I have heard him deliver a witty and entertaining speech, so he CAN do it. His nerves get the better of him most of the time though. All that word-salad...

It is a republican-leaning paper, but they do objective reporting and sometimes have positive - though rarely sugary - coverage of the DRF.

They did not carry out the poll. It was done by a Megaphone, a serious and objective polling company. Interestingly, the DRF hit a high note at the beginning of the 00's when Joachim and Alexandra had Nikolaj. Since then it has been heading south, but still remains at a high level of popularity, especially compared to other countries.

At least the number is dropping. And the monarchy is dicussed more and more. I think that the popularity of the DRF is very much dependant of how Fred and Mary will do in the future - and that is of course obvious but it's also promising because I quite frankly don't think we're that dim that we can't see through them and/or see how little they do. So IMO there's hope.

I'm wondering if the grey men have anything to do with the articles  Thinking Seems funny that it's all happening after her latest 'Looker me Tour' which to be honest wasn't a success. No one wanted to see her in Oz or else I missed the huge crowds. Laughing

Well, well, well ... the media is tiring of Mary wanting to be a celebrity instead of a quietly respectable royal.  No surprise at all.  But she isn't going to make that adjustment quietly because Mary wants to be a celebrity more than anything else.   She believes that she is one.

Mary is immature and greedy, like a spiteful 17 year old who wants to have more than everyone else at college.  She had so little in her early life and it embittered her - she became greedy and ambitious for material things and now she has access to money through the DRF, she needs to flaunt what she buys.  Clothes, hairstyles, facial work, holidays, jewels - add a snobbish attitude and that's Mary.  Not very attractive at all.

And the DRF will be damaged by it.  Can you seriously imagine Fred and Mary as king and queen?   It's all doom for Denmark with that pair of twerps at the top.

But what Mary doesn't see is she had a lot in her early life. A roof over her head, a loving family, access to education and healthcare. Jusaca is right, she is only in this for the "stuff".

No WW LOOKER-MOI tour wasn't a success by Sloow Danes stardards, or gullible Aussie's standard. No but it was a HUGE MEGA success where it mattered: it got several job offers to MEdiana. That's what it needed to be, and it was.

Now, if we step back a bit and have a lookey...lets see:
We see miserable MEdiana in Tas-I-MAN-ia
NO family outing as a family with Floppy Frodo
No family going in with MEDiana into church on xmas day
All alone as a single parent playing with four sprongs (an oldie...again )
No Floppy Frodo in sight.
then this little poll appears with snide remarks to MEDiana.

It's looking good...VERY good infact  Beer

I'll get more pop-corn

Its really too bad he's married to Mary. He needed to marry someone like Mathilde, who would help his self image and awkwardness, but instead he got someone who only cares about herself.

But what Mary doesn't see is she had a lot in her early life. A roof over her head, a loving family, access to education and healthcare. Jusaca is right, she is only in this for the "stuff".

Mary had plenty growing up. She had a typical middle-class upbringing with educated parents who also provided her with an education and a comfortable lifestyle. But in addition to that she had an ambitious, narcisisstic father who likely raised Mary and her siblings to aspire to get as much as they can even if means getting it from other people.

Mary was a plain Jane who aspired for the attention that the pretty girls in school got. She hit the jackpot when she hooked the witless prince who has been financing Mary's campaign to turn herself into that pretty girl everybody admires. So she goes back to Oz periodically to show everybody she's become that girl and get the validation she's always wanted, but she doesn't realize her sell by date has long passed.

I think she always felt she had less than she deserved. She believed she was born for more than what she got. That's why she truly believed it was her destiny to marry royalty (humility anyone?). No matter how much Mary has, she will always think she doesn't have enough.

pocahontas you are so right. That explains why Mary is desperate to get in with the British royals - the senior royals of Europe. She doesn't stand a chance!

I read about the poll on TV text this morning. As a reason they said that the Danish Monarchy modernises itself in the right tempo. They regarded the Norwegian as too fast and the British monarchy as too slow. Thinking

What modernisations have the DRF undertaken?  Confused

Only difference I see with the 'old fashioned' BRF is the DRF has a good relationship with the press.

Modernization has to do with being in the present.
The DRF is still hanging on to Gorm.
The BRF is well into the 20th century if not in the 21st century.
Good for the NRF for working so hard at being here and now and not a hologram in space and time.   Thumb up
