looking at what goes on with the jubilee in britain and in denmark i can't help thinking about king baudouin who made it a point to say that he didn't want a gift but if something must be done, he wants it to be something that benefits to the country. that's how the king baudouin foundation was created. it's been very active on social projects and on art preservation.

Cara I miss humility among Royals. Does the Queen deserve such a global party? Of course she is a good Queen, she never had to decide important things like her ancestors, the other do the work, it´s difficult to fail in being just a symbol. QMIIs party was expensive but at the same time so pathetic, something lacked totally.

ITA Miss Waynfleet! I think that both QM's and QEII's lavish Jubilee celebrations are unnecessary and the money could be better spent on their respective countries during the current economic crisis. Yeah, 40 & 60 years are a long time to reign but realistically all we are celebrating is that they have managed to stay alive while being monarchs. Congratulations Marge & Lilibet you are good at not dying! I've managed to stay alive for 5 years at my current job. I think I'll throw a Jubliee celebration next week.

As I recall, Juliana did the same thing for her jubilee. She requested that the money be spent on services for the nation.

Oh and I'll ask the people of the Færoe Islands to fashion you a tiara out of platinum Now your speaking my language Thrilla! That will look mighty fancy with my Uggs and Northface parka. I'll wear my new Jubilee tiara and wave to everyone as I glide down the hallway towards the vending machine to get my Diet Dr. Pepper and they can shower me with paperclips and rubberbands.

I dont think she is a good queen at all. She usurps her position and insists on setting bad examples for the Danish people. Pretending to be educated, she did not know how to raise children nor did she know how to care for a husband or promote a healthy lifestyle. I dont like her. She sucks.

Gosh those humanitarian ideas are so boring. Set up a foundation for the better of the country.... Probably for what? housing projects of peasants that can't even distinguish between art and culture? Nutrition for the poor? Those imbeciles that wouldn't know a good french red wine if they'd drown in the barrel? Nah, seriously, I think it is a great idea to do some sort of a gift registry, where people can choose (are assigned) what they want to give to the Queen. After all, one can bear only so many ugly candelabras and artless chinaware. So to tell the people from Greenland, she wants a new Tiara and perhaps give the Faroer a hint that new golf cart for Caix would be just welcome, is a great way of keeping people from sending her an endless supply of dental white or toothbrushes...

You, know, it's so funny. Even the most rabid republicans I know still seem to love old Daisy. They will cut Fred and Mary down, talk about Joachim and Marie as if they were serial killers but I can only think of one or two countrymen who have ever said something as negative as that about Daisy. And I feel exactly the same way! I don't know why everyone thinks she is such a fabulous queen. She doesn't suck in the same that Fred will as King, but she's not spectacular either. She's not dead yet and she shows up when she needs to, sober. Her paintings have been criticized as being excessively amateurish, yet legitimate artists have had their work removed to make way for her shit. And now Arken has an exhibit of her work through the years Someone please check that this old queen is wearing clothes!

I remember reading that Marge "requested" her gift that she got from the Municipality of Copenhagen. I think she actually may have made a wishlist.
I can't remember where I read it or what she got, but I'm pretty sure she gave CPH an idea of what to get her.
You're right. As far as I remember, she asked for 400 napkins of a certain design but that was thought too expensive and they ended up giving her 200.
