"He and Mary are more Louis XV and Marie Antoniette than they are Frederik and Ingrid. " So true, Maria. Ingrid was smart and very good at understanding and reading trends in society. She was able to at least pretend some interest in ordinary danes lives. Think about her biking around in Copenhagen under the war - not to forget her charity-work in "Sønderjylland" later. She was one classy lady.

Royals are just the finest parasites in society!! ITA They are fabulous for dishing but other than that I can't see what purpose they serve. Oh, but don't you know? Scandinavian companies are too incompetent to open doors for themselves, so without royals, we would have no export business. And without the royals to keep us together by being a national symbol to rally around, our countries would fall apart and degenerate into full-scale civil war So yes, they are worthy every cent... (I could use Odette's bucket now )

which many view as their "wage". ... and which they view as their "entitlement" and THAT is where the problem is. In Denmark at least, the royal direct lineage is a bunch of over entitled, under intelligenced snobs who take their position and their income for granted. I don't denigrate monarchies where those involved behave like people who could hold down a job and raise a family if they weren't doing what they are. I do object strongly to those where the holders take what they have for granted and look absolutely hopeless at doing their job let alone anything else. OK, rant over ... Keep ranting. Personally I think the mere fact that the DRF are producing a documentary to show how hard Fred etc work is enough of an indicator that the DRF does nowhere near what they should be.

The ekstrabladet-homepage doesn't work for me at the moment but there seems to be an article about Fred's workload comparing to Haakon's, not only quantity but quality of the engagements. 8th Feb - Ekstrabladet http://www.sejlsport.dk/sw46068.asp?guid=e317392fHaakon heavyweight and lightweight driver FredThe difference between Haakon and Frederik is not only based on time spent. The Norwegian crown prince's choice of action is markedly different from the Danish ditto. How Frederik participates in private races and sometimes a guest at sports events, there are different weight in Haakon program. ... At the same time participating Haakon always in the global economic summit in Davos, while Frederik opens Aarhus Festival Week or holding a reception at the royal yacht Dannebrog. (via Google Translater) Hallelujah, the penny is finally beginning to drop with the Danish press!! Do you think that this could be a 'test' article to see if they receive any backlash for printing a negative story about Fred, before they come out with something truly spectacular??

Sabotage most likely. The webpage is working again and what I found now is this: http://ekstrabladet.dk/fl...gelige/article1704438.eceNow wears the crown prince workwear - The Crown Prince has started 2012 as a real performer ....... And a glance at the royal family calendar for 20112 indicates that the kingdom's future ruler, 43-year-old Frederik, who otherwise often been criticized for preferring holidays rather than liabilities, intends to screw up even more for work this year.
15 working days Thus father of four Frederik had during the 2012s first 38 days of the calendar already 15 official working days. In addition, two tasks that are not listed in the calendar: Maternity Visiting sister Princess Marie of the 24th January and the 40th celebration of the fourth wife February (the day before the actual birthday).
Overall give it provisionally 17 days - which means that the Crown Prince almost every other day for years has been pulled down to work. And several days he has been on the job from early morning to late evening - eg. in busy day 14th and 15 January where the celebration of his mother, Queen Margrethe's 40th silver jubilee culminated.
Continues the Crown Prince in the role of performer the rest of the year, he is likely to put personal industrious safety record. (via Google Translater) They are not serious, are they??!?!?? They count visiting Marie in hospital for the birth of his niece an aditional workday?? And the birthday of his wife is a workday too?? Congratulating the handball team for winning the EuroChampionship and celebrate with them?? Celebrating 40th reign anniversary?? Oh please

One thing you must remember about Ekstra Bladet (and Danish humor in general). Irony is very big here. You can believe me when I say that they are saying the exact opposite of what they mean and they are definitely not defending Fred. Reading that with Danish eyes, even though it's translated into English, I'm still ROTFLMAO! As soon as I post this, I'm going to read the Danish version, but not until I swallow my coffee, so I protect my computer monitor.

I know neither Fred or Mary work very much, but even Mary seems to be doing more than Fred! What is he, a house husband?

Swash, great find! Ice Queen, Fred is the hands-on father and a domestic god, nannies and housekeepers nonetheless.
