A Tuesday? If they plan to televise it, that doesn't really make sense - the christening will probably be during the day and most Swedes will be working.

But Victoria and Madeleine were christened on Tuesdays (Carl Philip on a Friday) and Victoria and Madeleine's engagements were announced on Tuesdays as well, so maybe it's a tradition?

Well Tuesday really is an "odd" day for christening, but as you said Vic, CP & Madde were all christened on working days so they probably just went with that. Or it was the only day when they could gather the godparents, Freddles has a busy schedule you know.  Beer

Lena Rangström, First Curator of the Royal Armory, recently published a book about royal births and christenings. TT asked her about the christening traditions:

http://www.dagen.se/dagen/article.aspx?id=301766

When Victoria was christened, Carl Gustaf and Silvia broke the tradition of using water from the Jordan River. They used water from Öland instead.

Lena Rangström doesn’t know if the Crown of Sweden’s Heir Apparent will be displayed at Estelle’s christening. Carl Gustaf had it displayed at Carl Philip’s christening but not Victoria’s. (Carl Philip was still crown prince at his christening, but everyone knew it was temporary.)

There are two cradles that might be used for the reception after the christening. The older one is King Carl XI's cradle. It was first used in 1655 and has only been used for princes in the Bernadotte dynasty.

Another cradle has only been used for princesses since 1830.

Personally, I think the heir apparent’s crown and king's cradle should be used at Estelle's christening as she’s the future crown princess and queen, but looking at Carl Gustaf’s protocol choices in the past, I'm not sure it will happen.

Yes, I think the guests' schedules are a more likely reason. "Holding christenings on weekdays" doesn't seem like that important a tradition.

Will the godparents be announced before the ceremony or do we have to wait until the day of the christening?

I hope they display the Crown since Ella was the heir at birth, unlike her mother.

If Estelle is to be Queen (heir at her birth) then I hope that they display the Heir Apparent's Crown as well.

For the cradle - Estelle is a princess so I think sleeping in the historic cradle for princesses (since 1830) would be the right thing for her to do.
If the other cradle has been a 'prince' cradle for 450 years then I would leave it for princes - regardless of whether they are the heir.

Actually I presume Victoria was heir presumptive at the time of her christening - at the time she could be dislodged by the birth of a brother but had there been no brother then she would still have been queen in her time.  CG and Silvia did not know they would have a son.

I should have worded it better. Ella is the heir regardless of who comes next, while Vic would have been bumped by CP (barring a change in the succession law). Ella should get the crown. CG is a jerk if he doesn't have it displayed.

Girls didn't have any succession rights until 1980 (Victoria was born in 1977), but the change was already being debated when she was born. Parliament was in the middle of changing the law by the time Carl Philip was born.

I don't think it was wrong for CG to display the heir apparent's crown at Carl Philip's christening instead of Victoria's, since CP was technically crown prince. But I prefer Juan Carlos of Spain's approach. The situation in Spain is a bit different, because girls already have succession rights and Leonor doesn't have a brother. But even though the law hasn't been changed yet and Leonor is only heir presumptive, she was treated like a heir apparent.

Estelle, OTOH is already the heir apparent to the heir apparent, so she should really be treated as one.

So, shall we pencil in Snakey's engagement announcement for the Tuesday following the Christening??

(Sorry Swedes, but I think it's only a matter of time, otherwise the court would have pulled her into line over her media whoring already)

I'll take a guess at the announcement being made on Tuesday 17th April.
Then Sofia will attend the Christening.

My imagination foretells that Sofia, while dressed as a cute bunny, will receive a visit from the Easter Bunny delivering a precious sparkling gift inside an Easter egg!  SURPRISE!!
