I just heard about It maybe he was young and that was decades ago but I can't get over the fact that Romany bullied gays  in highschool just can't  not that he seems like a mean humanbeing now but this is a soft spot that I can't look past It

A few days later, Friedemann entered Stevens Hall off the school’s collegiate quad to find Romney marching out of his own room ahead of a prep school posse shouting about their plan to cut Lauber’s hair. Friedemann followed them to a nearby room where they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.

This act went beyond bullying IMO. He and his buddies physically attacked their classmate when they jumped him and cut his hair off. I wasn't a fan of his to begin with, especially after the dog incident, but this new revelation makes me

I'm shocked yes I hoped that Obama will win but as a whole Romney seemed pretty decent to me not anymore I will never look at him in the same way again
because of this behavior gays are committing suicides!

i love politics and usually like to keep up to date on US politics too, this thread has been interesting to read but I have a few points I'd like to make to get my 2 cents in

1 - only having 2 main parties means that it's a ping pong game with the losing party usually not having to wait too long before they get voted in again, i think ideally there should be a 3rd liberal party (as i don't particularly find the Democrats very liberal, just more liberal than the Republicans), despite what Tr'Anne'y Coulter would have people believe

2 - Republicans always claim they don't want government involvement in their lives or the government telling them what they can do and they want less laws and bureaucracy, yet they go out of their way to generate legislation for things like gay marriage, abortion etc (is this not government involvement in people's lives?)

3 - the US has a very dogmatic, biased and unrelenting right-wing media, i watch the Rachel Maddow show when i can on youtube or other service and she always backs up what she says with facts, Fox News on the other hand i have seen blatantly lying and misrepresenting facts, i hope people are aware that a lot of what is peddled as news these days is actually commentary on the news and not factual news itself

4 - as someone who speaks of how important US jobs are and how important it is to stop outsourcing US jobs overseas i find it strange that Romney is willing to do business with companies who do outsource and make money as a result

5 -  Romney has been using inflammatory but inaccurate fear mongering whilst campaigning - he said Obama's health care reform would add to the economic deficit yet every study has found it cuts the deficit - Romney says Obama is increasing the deficit yet the figures show the deficit is decreasing year on year since Obama took office - there are so many lies and inaccuracies i can't be bothered to type them all but there is a flavour

people may not like Obama, they might think he is too liberal, too black, too casual - but the US economy is slowly improving and people should recognise that you can't fix an economy in a 4 year term, it's a much longer process and anyone who would vote back in the Republicans who created 96% of current public US debt is mad i think

The Romney story is disgusting but I find the media calm to be even worse. If it was revealed that Romney had physically assaulted and abused a Black or Jewish teenager there would be outrage and 24/7 news coverage. Yet because the young man was gay there has been relatively little said. IMO.

I was amazed to read about Obama's girlfriend, the beautiful Genevieve Cook, whom he apparently admits was the love of his life. She would have made an AMAZING First Lady!

If Genevieve Cook was the LOVE of Obama's life, how come we have only just heard of her now? And it not as if Obama has just emerged on the international stage. Maybe, Obama and Cooke were once deeply in love, but I believe that most people usually have more than 'love' during their lifetime.

I guess I have to defend my party like a good little Republican. I hope Romney wins because he's the lesser of the two evils in my opinion.

1 - Most people agree that the two-party system is bad but there isn't a viable option for a third party. I don't think a coalition government will work because the majority party still dominates policy making.

2 - IA with this one. 

3 - MSNBC is just as biased as Fox News. Both stations push hard to advocate certain ideas and I think they both cater to the fringe groups.

4 - Obama named Jeff Immelt, the CEO of GE, to his Jobs Commission. GE avoids paying corporate taxes and outsources more jobs than most other U.S. companies. I'm not sure how that creates jobs in the United States but it does help GE.

5 - Our country's total debt is over $15 trillion so I'm not sure where you heard it was decreasing. Bush added a few trillion over his 8 years in office but Obama has added nearly $5 trillion since he took office.

The economy is actually worse now than it was in 2009, when Obama took office. It's not all his fault but he's not helping much either. The employment rate is dropping mainly because people have stopped looking for jobs. I wouldn't call that a recovery.

I know Obama's cool and everything but his coolness won't help the unemployed and the underemployed, like me. We need a president who takes his job seriously and does more than give flowery speeches.

I am no faith in the youth of this country so I expect he will be re-elected.

As for Obama's sudden support of gay rights, there cannot be any change in current policy until the laws change. So he can say whatever ha wants but until a bill is introduced and passed in the House and the Senate, two gay men still cannot be legally married in Georgia, South Carolina, Montana, etc., etc...

Also, every candidate (Republican and Democrat) loves to take credit for things that are positive and then claim innocent when things go wrong. Obama all but personally took credit for the assassination of Bin Laden. And yet, he frequently comments about the economy saying he inherited the problem and it was George Bush's fault. Finding Bin Laden was the culmination of 10 years of work that began long before Obama was even a senator.

As for health care, the health care reform bill was pushed through Congress quickly without having thought through details like how will such a program be funded. Part of the Health Care Bill is unconstitutional and will probably be repealed. AFAIK the US government cannot force citizens to purchase health insurance..

As for Romney being worth 200 million dollars, he is actually worth about 12 million. Romney clearly has good business sense and has been financially successful. I feel like that is a great asset for a president, especially during these difficult times worldwide.

Last, there is a lot of innuendo and outright lies that are told during an election year. Be skeptical of what you hear and read.

Personally, I find that being successful in business doesn't translate to being an asset to the presidency.  Two very successful businessmen, Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush, proved disastrous to the economy while in office.

This news disgusts me too.  Do you know what I found even more revolting?  His bs apology!  During an interview with Brian Kilmeade of Fox Radio he just said
Back in high school, you know, I did some dumb things, and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously, I apologize for that… You know, I don’t, I don’t remember that particular incident [laughs]… I participated in a lot of high jinks and pranks during high school, and some might have gone too far, and for that I apologize.

As for Romney and his so-called business credentials, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on them.  Bain Capitol participated in outsourcing American jobs.  And that's nothing to boast about, IMO.
