As if the Greeks don't have enough problems already...
I really don't understand why they need so many villas. They already have one in Tuscany and Pantagonia.
You can only stay in one villa at a time...

If I had their cash, I'd be buying real estate all over the place too. Why? Because the market is down and a few years from now when it slowly goes back up, they can sell off these home for a handsome profit. My guess is that with Maxima having a degree in economics, that's exactly what they are doing. JMO.

IMO you don't have to have an economics degree to realize that it's advantageous to buy when the market is down. the average joe knows that too but usually doesn't have the money to do so (he's already lucky if he's still got a job).

"On today's episode of House Hunter's International we meet Alex and Max a young couple from the Netherlands who are hoping to buy a vacation property in Greece with an eye toward renting the property when they're away. 'It's a fantastic opportunity for us to be able to enjoy the sunshine and Greek culture and then give others the same option!' said Max (who declined to state her occupation on camera.) "

If it is done for investment purposes only, yes, that would indeed make sense.
So they are not actually planning on staying there regularly? Maybe they want to rent the place to
rich tourists until the amrket is up again?
In the netherlands, people are getting fed-up with the future "koopman-koning" (king merchant, the nickname of the first
Dutch king Willem I)
The idea is that the image
of the monarchy is tainted by these bussiness ventures, especially as corruption will most likely be an issue, no matter
which country the future villa is in.

The thing is these 2 happen to get involved in projects with dubious background but you know they are royals they are above the law!

In the meantime many dutch people strugle to pay their mortgage and force to sell their houses at smack down prices!!  Whistle

Have somebody else the impression that the different members of the different monarchies are there not to serve their country, but just to serve themselves??!!
Yes, definitely.  And, their hanger-on courtiers are also SELF servants rather than PUBLIC servants.  I think they are all there to be rich and to live like the rich.  Skiing, sailing, shooting, luxury travel!  I would give them all the boot.

Aehm... yes?
Are you new to the crowd or what caused you to take off your glasses?
I think QEII was the last to "dedicate her entire life ,whether it be long or short to the service of [her] people".

It seems that my try to be sarcastic has ended with a big fail... Blush  Crap

Anyway, itīs a long time ago that I donīt like pink glasses, and it was clear that at RD, most people are not wearing them at a certain section, but I had my doubts about other royal houses. Wink.

Iīll try to "re-formule" my question:

Have somedy else the impression that the different members of the different monarchies are not trying anymore to look like they are serving their country, but just serving themselves?

I very much dislike this sort of questioning the opinions of the other posters on RD Thumb down

Wax and Max have nothing else to do with their money.  Another holiday home!  Then, it makes no sense to me for them to also have a mansion in the Argentinian countryside although Maxi is an Argie.  I think they're spreading themselves out too much globally.  Mind you, they can now pretend that their work is to fly from one home to another.

Oh well, it is their own money, so why not using it? All family members probably inherited a lot of money lately, because the death of Claus, Juliana and Bernhard. And they are all probably investing and buying as well. Wax and Max just have the spotlights because their position. Anyway, it seems that this villa will not cause much problems. I checked the news, the comments from the Socialist Party: "It is a private matter". And GreenLeft just hopes everything is arrange well this time, so it will not cause trouble again. Btw. both parties are not monarchist parties at all.

I would say what's missing here is sensitivity. Living large at a time when your "subjects" are struggling in a recession is insensitive. Unless Netherland is one exception in the Euro zone?

To be honest, most 'subjects' are not struggling at all. Some maybe have a problem but a large majority can deal with the situation and can even still go on a nice summer holiday.

I have no idea if you live in NL or not but this country is facing at the moment a raise in in bankruptcy (schuldsanering). Buildings projects are stopped or not sold. The demand on renting houses is going up due to the fact that a lot a people can't get a mortgage. NL is not exception in the Euro Zone. Our dear politicians are selling their souls to the first bidder (including The RF) to screw the "subjects" a lot more and don't care shit if people are getting in difficulties because the same politicians gave free pass to the dentist to raise their prices! The "nice summer vacations" are not happening that often or not happening at all!! Or maybe I am watching the wrong news programs!!

That is actually another funny coundrum:
Everybody seems to accept that of course Claus and Bernhard left fortunes to their various offspring. What's however interesting is HOW? Neither of them had much more to offer than a very handsome face, a pedigree and strong swimmers. How come they amassed such fortunes?
