i commented on maxima's red soles (and huge pearls) at the church service for the belgian and dutch children that died in the car accident recently.

the red soles look really obnoxious and are a sore in the eye at a funeral (or memorial service such as the one for norway), no matter who wears them. jmo.

Well Maxima is know her wrong choices in wardrobe, she wore black for the Norway christening and she was a godmother!!

Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller's tomb at Hellerup cemetery is decorated with flowers from the funeral in Holmen's Church on Saturday afternoon.




The amount of flower bouquets from the funeral yesterday in Holmen's Church is so enormous that employees from the Bering flowers has been responsible for floral arrangement in the church, spent several hours trying to put them right in five long rows here in the cemetery in Hellerup.




Front left is the heart of red roses, which the family has put at Maersk's grave. Beside the heart bouquet is the wreath from the royal house, where roses in red, pink and yellow blends beautifully. The grave is adorned with flowers in white and blue.

The heart of roses and the wreath from the DRF are just beautiful!
However, I need to say that - for my taste - that would actually have almost been enough. As beautiful as these huge lines of flower arrangements are, it annoys me to think how much money has gone into this (here, a very average arrangement for a funeral costs around 100€), only to say that "Look, Family / Company XY has spent some money for Maersk as well!" More of an advertising, really.
I understand that the closest family lays down something, but the others spending money on it always bugs me. It´s not as if it would help the deceased in any way, and this money could be spent so much better.

They are some of the loveliest flowers that I've ever seen at a funeral.  

Like Cowgirl, I also don't see anything wrong with smiling at a funeral. A very old person often has had a life filled with things worthy of celebration.  It is a time of grief but also of remembering good times and a time of catching up with the deceased's family and expressing thanks for the fun times, offering comforting words of love and practical support.
I see Marie, Joachim, Mary and Fred behaving entirely appropriately.
The fact that people do curtsy and bow to Margrethe and the Royal family is a formality that one day might peter out. I imagine that some folk like to follow protocol when they greet them.

Especially when the flowers are ostentatiously vulgar.  I've seen nicer flower arrangements at the funeral of a Melbourne hoodlum.

MM also wore red-soled Louboutins at the memorial service for the Norway massacre victims. A huge faux pas IMO!
Too fashion-conscious and ostentatious for such a tragic and solemn event. Surely she has other black shoes that are more modest.

For the most obvious of reasons, red is the colour that is never worn in any form, at a funeral.
