I laughed out loud when I read the title of this thread. Good for Sofia, at last!

Mistress is not a big problem as long as she remains hidden, not being brought out to any public event. Let's see how long Corinna can be a hidden 'nurse' for JC.

"King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia's announcement that they will hold neither a public nor private party on May 14 has fuelled speculation they are actually 'estranged'. In recent months they have rarely been seen out in public, and rumours have abounded of the King's 'roving eye' - with some suggesting he has bedded more than 1,500 women. But others claim the move is designed to appease Spaniards still angry with their monarch for going on a lavish £27,000 elephant hunting safari in Botswana last month." I feel sorry for Sylvia and Sophia. Things are out in the open now that they would have liked to stay private.
I personally don't think that these revelations help Sophia in any way. What if she was okay about marrying JC knowing that there was no "great love" between them? She was born a princess and she might have had completely other priorities - marry someone the same "class" than her and doing a good job representing the country. She did that and she could live with him being adulterous. Surely she would have had many opportunities to leak something to the press, but she did not. It must be extremely humiliating for her.
What if she wanted to celebrate?

i suspect that both sofia and JC had a modus vivendi. she was living her own life and so was he. i think that she was smart enough to know that his life involved other women and if she wasn't (which i doubt) some courtier surely would have been so "nice" as to tell her. let's also not forget that JC and constantine, sofia's brother, were two peas in a pod when it came to womanizing.

Indeed. I don't think Sofia is bothered by the infidelity. She's bothered because this recent episode humilliated her.

ITA. I think she's long done with him, and is probably happier when he is otherwise occupied. Discretion on his part was not too much to ask.

Good for Sophia! I don't care how long they have been married or if she is the Queen, she doesn't deserve to be publicly humiliated by her cheating husband. It's never to late to stand up for yourself and say "enough is enough". Go Queenie!!!! Well done Sofia! [/quote Mind you, if a certain Crown Princess ends up in a similar situation, I am likely to side with the King!

I saw that Inaki's father has died - poor man. It must have been terrible for him to know about the charges against his son.
The funeral was in Vitoria - Basque country. I've been there. It's such a beautiful place.

Why do this to her? She has been a dream come true for any man and he was lucky she married him; whne she married him, he was the one with no throne and she was the one from the reigning RF. Now he's king and has bene and yet, can't seem to even bother to pretend to be decent? Why on earth did his mistress have ot be at official events and why on earth does JC need to sleep around so much? Mistress is not a big problem as long as she remains hidden, not being brought out to any public event. Which is where the line has been crossed; NO mistress has any business being out in public with her married lover.

Such a pity that bedroom gymnastics isn't an Olympic event; Kate would have been a gold medalist of several years standing.

Well, idealy no mistress should be there at all. But we don't know what secret arrangements those two had. It is good for the public to know what JC is up to, but it is further humiliating for Sophia and I feel very sorry for her.
