Glad to see that people donated enough to cover the hosting cost! I was able to chip in a bit and was happy to be able to do so. Thank you, Maria and Thomas, for all the work you do for the site!

How could my credit card number be stolen??   Thumb down From what the bank and fraud dept. told me there are many ways.   Just because it goes through paypal doesn't mean that everyone at Paypal can be trusted. The fact that I have never had a problem and then made the donation and that same day IN Lux someone tries to buy computer equipment for $103 and then $1100 is not a coincidence and that is per the bank and fraud dept.s thoughts.

I am not blaming this site, understand that. I am just doing my part as the bank advised and letting people know this happened to me, could happen to them.

I'm very sorry this happened to you ginnis. I wonder though, if not it's a coincedence that it was someone from Luxenbourg who tried to used your card. PayPal is very widely used and AFAIK considered as safe as as can be concerning online payment. Many, many sites use PayPal.

Thank you Maria. When I clicked the link it asked for my credit card number and I put that in. The people I spoke with at the fraud division and the bank said it wasn't a coincidence. It is possible someone hacked the site and got the information which is why they said I should alert the site. In the ned they were not able to get the money because the fraud division saw that this was not normal activity and stopped the transaction and froze my account so that even I can't use it. I just wanted to follow-up on what they told me and do my part in alerting.

Hi ginnis1

When you click the donate button you are actially transfered to Paypals site. So you are not actually entering your credit card info on Royaldish, but on Paypal.

So if anybody got hacked its paypal. And of course that might happen (anything might happen), it just seems very unlikely. Paypal uses a secure connection. You can see that when you click the donate button. The page that loads starts with https (notice the s).

It the same thing that happens on most online shops. When you get to payment, you are usually transfered to a payment page that is not on the actual shop site.

So if you need to report the hacking it should really be to Paypal. And us of course. We will consider an altenative way of donating if it seems paypal isn't safe.

What I meant earlier about how your credit card was stolen, was that it might also be another program on your computer (a virus) that stole the credit card info when you typed it in. I don't know what happened, just a thought.

I also want to say that your financial information is not shared with us. So we can't see your credit card info.

I also used my credit card and nothing bad happened. I think others used credit cards and nothing happened. Last time it was no problem with donations.
I think maybe the bank has to dig deeper to see what's happened.

Thanks guys. I have notified Paypal as well. I also saw that story on the Visa/Master Card. I have no doubt this board is trustworthy and I am glad no one else had problems.  Wink

I've not had a problem, but I jumped on my netbanking to check my credit card transactions after I read your post, Ginnis!  Nerves Props to your bank for being right on it, as well.

You click the Donate button on the top.

You fill out how much you want to donate.

Then you either log in with PayPal if you have a paypal account.

If not, then you fill out the payment form.
