I think I have to make some rules regarding the posting of images. There a few things to consider when posting images. Copyright, bandwidth usage, netiquette being some of them. First, posting and image that someone has the copyrights to is illegal, and so should be avoided. Second, when posting an image (in such a way that the image is visible directly in the post) that is on another server we use that servers bandwidth everytime we view the image. The other website doesn't get anything out of that, they just use bandwidth. It also forces you to download those images everytime you view the thread, which can be annoying especially if the images are big. Third, the internet is a wonderful thing, and the ability to link websites and document is a key functionality. Hyperlinking is what the internet is. But it can be done in a good way and a bad way. When linking to content on another website both should benefit. We get access to some interesting content, and the other site gets more visitors. To sum it all up. When posting images please follow these simple guidelines:- If you have an image that noone, or yourself, has the copyright to please upload the image instead of inserting it in the post.
- If you do not have the copyright to the image please link to where the image is.
- When linking to an image consider linking to the webpage containing the image instead of the image itself. That way the other website benefits as well.
Thank you.

I hope this thread is open for posting. Just wondering: How about posting links of pics in galleries like TV2,Politiken, BT etc.Do we just post the gallery link??? Sometimes those links change and the pictures are no longer there. Thanks.

I don't know. But generally I think that you should link to the page containing the picture instead of to the picture directly. If what you are getting at is you want to upload the pictures here so that they stay available, then I am quite certain that is illegal. If you upload the pictures to some other picturesite and link to them, then i can't see any problem with that. I can't check all pictures that are linked to. And at least RoyalDish will not be hosting illegal pictures.

I don't know. But generally I think that you should link to the page containing the picture instead of to the picture directly. Unfortunately on some agency sites, both individual photos and galleries will go out of date after a while and you'll end up with dead links in the threads. It's a problem we're just having to live with at TRF, but it beats "remove all our photos within seven days or you and your members will be hearing from our legal department." If what you are getting at is you want to upload the pictures here so that they stay available, then I am quite certain that is illegal. Yep. As long as they're being posted without permission, at any rate, and permission is expensive. If you upload the pictures to some other picturesite and link to them, then i can't see any problem with that. There's no problem as far as this forum is concerned, but the hosting sites themselves have rules about uploading copyrighted material. Not that anybody pays attention to those rules or anything, but they're still there. If an RD member posts a link to a copyrighted photo they've stored at Photobucket, they might be in trouble with the agency as a Photobucket member but not as an RD member. If they post a link to a copyrighted photo that someone else has stored at Photobucket, they haven't done anything illegal (as far as I know). Not that I'm giving legal advice here, but this is how I understand it from when we were updating our rules at TRF, and our owner had a lawyer involved in writing the Terms of Service that the rules are based on and in answering questions while we were writing the copyright rules.

I know. My primary concern here was that RD would not be breaking the law. What posters do on other sites is not RD's concern.

What might be interesting is if you contact the DRW Blog and find out how they manage to post a great collection of photos- perhaps they pay for them?

Perhabs one of them is Fred in disguise. You know like how Peter Parker gets all those upclose Spiderman photos. Is it a bird, is it a plane? Oh no its PINGOMAN! Ever prowling the bars and seedy places, always on call to administer some special treatment to the ladies (and getting them to drive him 18m before gettting arrested ).

I didn't realize you have such a great sense of humor- you know being the administrator

Apparently the Royalist website pays for the photos they use, so it's possible. I believe it's quite expensive, though, but maybe the owners of some of these websites have arrangements with some of the photographers or agencies.

I have a small request, I reall appreaciate everone posting all the pictures, butI was wonder if it was possible not to post all pictures directly,Its nice to see one or two but if the rest could be posted as links? Especially mega larg HQ pictures takes very long to load and you have to scroll not only down but also to the side when you are, like me, not blessed with a giant screen.
