The Hildesheim (*) state court Judge Andreas Schlüter found Ernst August von Hannover guilty on Tuesday of causing bodily harm to a Kenyan hotelier. The judge followed the prosecution's request and fined Ernst August the equivalent of 40 days of his salary, which the court estimated at 5,000 daily. Ernst August has refused to disclose his finances to the court. (*) Hildesheim is a mid-sized city in Lower Saxony, Germany; about 30km from Hannover that's how one looks when abusing alcohol - a burnt out, bloated sucker The 56-year-old great-grandson of the last German emperor, Wilhelm II, was retried after being convicted in 2004 and fined 445,000 euros. Ernst August did not deny the assault but was seeking to have his sentence reduced. While the fine is lower than in the previous ruling, his lawyers could not secure the acquittal they tried to obtain. In the first trial, Ernst August was ruled to have hit hotelier Josef Bruhnlehner on the Kenyan holiday island of Lamu repeatedly with a metal ring that he was wearing. The prince and Caroline, however, maintained he only slapped the man and Bruhnlehner greatly exaggerated his injuries. Judge Schlüter stressed that the court could only find proof of Ernst August slapping Bruhnlehner twice in the face. The hotelier repeatedly exaggerated his injuries and thereby became the defense's best witness, Schlüter said. Caroline testified behind closed doors on her husband's behalf in a 2008 hearing that led to the retrial. In January, the princess, 53, testified again for him publicly at the Hildesheim court, arguing that Bruhnlehner was exaggerating. Her husband she said does not even wear a ring, not even his wedding ring. even BB is picking up on that Her loyal action has saved the feisty gentleman of a fine in the neighborhood of three million dollars. One can surely say that Ernst August Caroline owe a huge thanks for your help.

I wonder about Caroline's motivation for testifying on behalf of Ernst. Some reports commented on her fine, strong testimony. I think it was her way of indicating to Ernst that she is not to be trifled with, and that he'd better ante up whatever she asks for in a divorce/custody case because her testimony is sure to be more credible than his.

So, let me get this straight, no one here likes Caroline? I guess I'm a little alone in that then. She annoys the heck out of me, but something about her just makes me like her. I know that sounds a little strange, but it's true. I do not like her husband though. He seems to me to be a little bit of a "bischero" (I don't know how to say that in English - I guess a jerk?) She certainly doesn't seem like an "airhead" to me. Perhaps that's what you are referring to when you talk about Caroline scheming or whatever. I would certainly prefer her to Albert (I don't like him I think Charlene could do much better than him), but that is just my opinion. I am glad Caroline's husband got a fine though - assault is assault, and people should be punished for it. He certainly shouldn't have gotten off lightly just because he's a prince.

I always quite liked Caroline - I thought she was the most beautiful woman of her generation - and I felt sorry for all her with all the drama and tragedy that befell her. I cooled on her when she ran off with ernst as a) he was married to her best friend and b) he is such an ugly violent drunken thug, it was hard to imagine what she saw in him beyond the better title than hers.

Me too, Jane. I was very fond of Caroline and felt horrible when he rhubby died in the boating accident. But since then Caroline has kind of gone down, not least for the choice of hubbies, I dare say. But I liked her a lot after Philippe Junot.

It's outrageous that celebs and royals think that they're above the law. They are NOT! Good for the judge of not dismissing the charges!

Pede, I 'd you just for the title of this thread. What a vile man EA is still having the last laugh: he is still doing what he does best, self-gratification, that his $$$ has afforded him, and sleeping with anyone he can without any thought to his marriage! Go EA what the judge should have done was to sentence him to 10 years of hard-labour. then, he would have learnt what it means to be part of reality! HG, Happy 160th G
