Congrats Cess  Smiley Star
Cara, Felipe competed at the Olympics (BCN 92) in sailing, I don't know in what class, he finished sixth.
I'm sure he was very happy yesterday, the atlético (the winner) is his favourite team.

No exactly, skiing and sailing are more like hobbies than real sports IMO.

Except for professional  athletes the rest of us practice sports as hobbies, no matter if it's tennis, sailing or football.

Thanks Cara, a  Star for you in 24   Hug

I'm sure the sportsmen and women who dedicate hours of their lives training to compete at Olympic level would love to hear that.  Blink

Well, yes it's hobbies in the way that it's not our jobs. But I meant that sailing on a non-professional level is not that exhausting. However, running is tough even if you're not professional. And the same goes for soccer or ice hockey . People don't go on vacation to jog, it's to hard. However, people go on vacation to ski downhill. That's what I meant.

However, my point was that for example Fred, Haakon and Daniel have the sporta aura. Felipe doesn't IMO.

It depends, you can go "running" or you can go running. You can wake up at nine and ski a while without pushing yourself or you can go "really" skiing . It depends on people's attitudes, likes and dislikes. I would never go running for "fun" or to clear my head but I have friends who do.

Felipe participated at Olympic level way past the "hobby" level.

I often take a run to clear my head but I still feel that I have worked out afterwards.  It's not like the few times in my life I have sailed. I mostly sat there and then sometimes pulled a rope  I think it's easier to cheat when you sail than when you run (unless you cheat by walking).

thanks for the info on the olympics clara.  Star good for felipe to have been part of the team.

i wouldn't entirely agree with you that the rest of us practise sports as mere hobbies (as in doing it at a leisurely pace).  a lot of people that practise sports in their free time are IMO competitive and athletes in their own right (thinking in particular of running, tennis, soccer, hockey...).

You're welcome Cara  Smiley  Star
And I understand what you are saying regarding non-professional professional athletes (if that makes sense   ) and if I got so defensive with this was because I used to compete (as a hobby) in skiing and I practised other sports as lighter hobbies and now that I no longer train every weekend and school break as I used to, there is no other sport that leaves me as worn out (of course it depends on how much I push myself and with whom I ski) I'm very much opposed to the idea that skiing is a "light" sport.  Wink
About sailing, like Cess my experiences with sailing are moving a rope and staying out of the way but I have friends who sail (they were in the last Olympics for example) and I know they train and work a lot.

When it's time, Spain will have every reason to be proud of Felipe as their King.  He has, IMO, truly grown into a statesman in the last 3-4 years.  And the look on peoples' faces - there seems to be genuine affection for him.  Which he returns.
