Wondering if Georgi will ever come loose of his mother............

Doubt it. She seems to be the overbearing type, like her mother, her grandmother, and so forth.

If he thinks Mama's going to let him marry that socialite, he's got a rude awakening coming. She's spent a lifetime of of telling her relatives that they're not worthy and she is, and to have her precious boy marry down would make her the biggest hypocrite around.

It would have been amazing if her darling Georgy married Hoefia of Sweden.

only if they'd moved to sweden afterwards  Roll Eyes

here are 2 clips of balls. narative is in russian, but you'll get the idea.

first is better organised, nice costumes(although i think they choose the wrong style, this ball is dedicated to Natalia Goncharova, wife of Pushkin) , everybody knows how to dance and behave. looks pleasant, but a little bit theatrical.

second... winter ball for noble assembly of 2013. well... looks like they took people from the streets, dressed them in local theatre costumes and right now teach them how to dance... plastic tiaras, feather boa, so classy  Spiteful

i highly doubt that Gogi would be anywhere near all those european nobles (monaco and so on) without his Mama. she is the driving force of this comedy duo. and when she kicks the bucket, i can't imagine him continue this royal show (not right away, but slowly fading). he just looks to me silly, childish and cowardly. so if Mama is smart, she'll pick a strong and ambitious woman, that will believe in Gogi's "royalness". kind of like Hoefia, if you think of it  Laugh bounce

The news woman's outfit is not at all what I would expect a newswoman to wear.   Huh?  These are great!  I'd watch these all the time if they aired them on tv!  It's really entertaining.

absolutely agree, this dress is too short and shiny and looks tacky. especially next to the gowns of other ladies. but i don't think she could afford anything better then the cheap chinese fashion with her small salary

and more videos for you )

woman with weird eyebrows is the only noble descendant here, but she has a good point - being a noble person is not about ancestors, gowns, balls etc, but more about inner culture, and youth should learn it from the early age

love the little girl dancing in the background, so cute  Angel

this one is a school ball

i fell in love with this era after great soviet screen versions of Chekhov, Turgenev and many more. and latter this passion extended for modern royals(with a little bit disappointment, but still very entertaining). but Manya and Gogi just don't fit in, anywhere. except their huge sense of entitlement there is absolutely nothing, no substance at all. and in terms of entertainment they are dull

These are so great!   Star

Are these events a regular occurrence?  What is the point?  In the first video it looks like it was done for educational purposes.  Is that why they do these?  Do the people have to pay to go to these/dance at these?  Those teenaged boys in the third video look so unhappy.  They look like they're thinking, "I can't believe my mom is making me do this!"

silly me  Blush  i should have given more information but i'm kind of slow right now(hate being sick)

the first clip is about Sledovo estate in Kostroma region. used to be noble manor, then turned into kids summer camp, got dilapidated in the 90-s, but now restored and turned historical and ecological centre with summer field practices for schoolchildren and teachers of the local city and region.

the Ball was yearly tradition reconstruction by local historical dance club "Reflection", with some fashion show (3 girls at 0:17). i couldn't find anything about entrance fees, but i'd guess it'd be usual ticket price

the third clip is called "preparation for the Grand Ball". the actual ball was a children's charity ball, held at the Small Philharmonic Hall in Saint Petersburg. and the boys were cadets of St. Petersburg schools, so probably would prefer to be somewhere else.

The program of the Ball were:
Dance workshops;
Performance by the children's choir "Iskra";
Demonstrations of dance theater "Mon Plaisir" (Dance in the Baroque style);
Interactive performances by singers from the Music Academy of Elena Obraztsova.
Ball was accompanied by the symphony orchestra of Musical College. Mussorgsky.
the tickets were from 1500 rubles for students to 6000 rubles for the place at table (with some food)

this kind of events happen around recreated noble estates or historical clubs\societies in big cities for educational purposes, but mostly for fun.
major problem is that it's highlighted pretty poorly. majority of this clubs don't have internet sites, advertisement is in local news papers and they don't make big news splash. well, at least in my tiny town it's like that

i think mostly due to location. this estates were basically summer residences, built in remote villages with just woods and fields around.
if the place was nice, the house was turned into kids summer camp
if famous people lived there, then it became museum (like Chekhov estate)
if it was located closer to the big cities, then it would became an institution.
but majority of those estates were just "in the middle of nowhere" with some hungry and exhausted villagers around, turned into
country club at best,  plundered and later forgotten

Now the government has come up with a trick to save the remnants of these estates, and not to spend their money. they began to lease it to the businessmen for a paltry sum for a long time but with the condition that the building will be completely renovated by tenant.
