 Star Lolly  Hug

Astrid was lovely and charming, and it´s so terrible that she died so young.

How was the relationship between JC and her stepmother Lilian?

I've only heard so little about Lillian.  I need to look her up.

I read now that the siblings had a better relationship with Lilian than her own children with Leopold.
I think it´s a rumour but still odd:

"There was some concern among politicians close to the King (Baudouin) that he might actually be in love with his stepmother, Princess Lilian, suspicions fueled by secret recordings of surprisingly intimate-sounding telephone conversations between the two. The post-wedding actions of the king's father and stepmother only increased speculation; they briskly moved out of the royal palace at Laeken and reportedly broke off relations with Baudouin for some time."  Yikes

when he married Fabiola it was thought that he was going to enter a monastery, I cannot imagine him having an illicit relationship with his step mother. Although who knows maybe that's why he wanted the monastic life.  But I think that it is not true, I can see Lilian trying to manipulate the situation for her own ends.  Icecream

Fabiola disliked her very much. No wonder.
Lilian wasnīt amused that her children married commoners (she was herself one, but who cares  Laugh bounce).

that's the commoner syndrome

I think that it is interesting that her children didn't have a good relationship with her, one didn't even go to her funeral. Imo she seems to be a real bitch.

Leopold was a wimp (sorry), but at least he was happy with Lilian.
A shame the Belgians chased away Leopolds brother Charles. Instead of a young Badouin (who hadnīt a clean slate) a smart Charles.
But itīs too late. No one knows if Philippe becomes King, not to speak of Elisabeth.  Roll Eyes

well you know Belgium monarchy is not very solid, but neither is the spanish, swedish, norwegian, dutch, and even the british is not passing for their best moment  Whistle

Why should they have passed Baldouin? that thing about Lilian is possibly a false rumour and he was really popular when he was king. The only problem is that he didn't have to children to whom pass the title.
