Perhaps it the Dutch Royal House who has been reading our comments lately.

From TRF: "Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima this year were more likely to step in the Netherlands than last year. The Dutch CP couple carried out around 160 public appearances between them this year, well up on last year's total, news agency ANP reports.
Prince W-A was out and about on official business over 70 times, compared with 40 in 2009.
Princess Maxima carried out almost 90 official engagements, up from 60 a year ago. More than once a week, the prince and princess to be found somewhere at home, according to a summary of the visits over the past two years. Over one year ago there was criticism that W-a and Maxima enough would show their faces in the NL and many would stay abroad.

The prince made 16 foreign trips and the princess 19 especially in relation to its work for the UN.

Queen Beatrix had 70 public engagements away from home, down slightly on the 2009 total. Besides QB, W-A, and Maxima, Princess Margriet, Prof. Pieter Van Vollenhoven and Princess Laurentien are the most active members of the royal family as the number of public appearances."

I have been reading RD, lol. It is obvious that in economically hard times the pr of states has to be reviewed. They has to find new ways to find a fresh direction. That is why they will make visits into discussion boards about them. There is mostly speculation of Charlene making betterments because of an employed private pr woman spying every board what is written about her.

The 24/7 working dutch couple hired a very expensive PR people while ago!! Since then they made the hard working couple showing up a lot more!! That is the secret behind their new found commitment, I have read a comment from poster from Troonopvolgers that Max, doesn't even stopped to greet the people anymore, she goes in and out and only stops where ever the photogs are standing. This site use to be almost about Max but not anymore, the owner even changed home pic to one of FRED/MARY while ago!!

BTW if Max went on 19 trips away from Holland those were only official trips!! What about those they did not declare and leaving NL in secret. And we all know they have strange stopovers in Argentina or Mozambique. There were rumors that during the SA soccer games they made a stopover in ther vacation house in Machangulo, Mozambique

OK - my ignorance is going to shine through once again but these figures don't seem in any way high for public appearances? Between them they only carried out 160 official engagements...is that right?

That would have been my point too divinemiss, so no, you're not ignorant!! Star

When you get right down to it, your British royals work their collective asses off compared to most of the other royal families.  The only royal families who might do less than the Dutch are the Belgian royals and definitely the Japanese royals.  Maybe these two families do more, but there's never any press about it if they do.

Felipe and Letizia have to be the busiest CP couple anywhere. There list of engagements is very high compared to their peers in other countries. The other CPs  don't come close to matching their schedule.

I don't know if other royal houses post the number of engagements each member does in a year. I've never seen the tallies for the Dutch Royal House before. Does anyone know if the DRH shares this type of information every year?

I have come across discussions in the past at the BRMB where they members were debating how the British view engagements for their royals as compared to the continental royals.  From what I recall if one of the British royals has an engagement they count each separate act as an engagement. For example Sophie goes to a hospital and 1. Meets with staff and visits patients, 2. Gives a speech during a lunch at the hospital, 3. Presents a plaque to the hospital, that would be counted as 3 engagements.  Has anyone else read this at another site before?

I'm sure if we compare them to the other CPs they would be in the top three of hard-working crown prince and princess  Roll Eyes

The SRF posts an assesment of the year's engagements JC, Sofía, Felipe, Letizia, Elena and Cristina have done. They still have the 2009 balance up on their official site: http://www.casareal.es/no...tividades-ides-idweb.html

I didn't know this, it's a bit strange  Huh?
The Spanish royals count this separate acts as one engagement. For example Letizia went las month to the Canary Islands to open a centre for elderly people: She met the medical team, toured the instalations, discovered a plaque...but it was considered as one engagement.

Thank you for the information Clara. Regarding the way that acts or engagements are counted by different countries, if what I remember the discussion was a heated one. It became a BRF vs all other royals type of debate.
