Princess Maxima travelled from the Netherlands to Geneva to attend her friends memorial service.

14:50 | 17.01.2011

She seemed concerned, glistening tears in her eyes. Crown Princess Máxima tried ot regain her composure at the memorial service for her friend Celia von Bismarck in Geneva.

She came all the way from her native The Hague and arrived to say goodbye to her close friend Celia von Bismarck († 39): At the memorial service in Geneva tears glistened in the eyes of Holland's Crown Princess Máxima (39). The future queen was not alone in her grief: About 400 friends attended the service in the Gothic church of Saint-Gervais, those present were Celia's ex-husband, Carl-Eduard von Bismarck, Francesca von Habsburg, Rolf Sachs, star auctioneer Simon de Pury and many more. Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" brought the mourners to tears.

Just eight weeks before her death on 17 December Celia von Bismarck had received the shock diagnosis: skin cancer. It all started with a mole that the doctors removed 16 years ago. "But we have not known she had such a serious cancer," said her mother Romy Demaurex the Bild-Zeitung. He had not told her what she had, and that they would have to check every three months. The fact that the disease broke out until much later was due to Celia's healthy lifestyle."

As reserved as she was in the Society, she departed: Celia von Bismarck died quietly in her mother's arms.  Even friends and her ex-husband had not known about their insidious disease.

Very sad indeed. However to me it seems somewhat strange that Celia never had her skin checked after a mole went riot 16 years ago. We know by now that those things have to be checked routinely, even without a doctor telling us. A clear case of denial, understandable, but sad....

So sad that such a young woman passed away.

But cancer is a very malicious illness
My beloved mum also died of cancer and she looked great and was full of energy. She just started to lose weight without a reason and went to doctor.
She passed away just 5 months after  she  had been diagnosed with a  cancer.
During her funeral many people (not family and close friends) asked me what happened to her because nobody could have believed that she was so ill and thought that she had an accident.

They just saw her a couple of months earlier and she looked so healthy.

 Hug moje szczere kondolencje, Hania.

Several of us here on the board had similar experiences, and it is heart-breaking! My heart goes out to you.

I hope you will find solace in that she is in a better place now...young and beautiful...and nothing can hurt or harm her!

Hug and a warm welcome from me  Star
