Thank you for posting all the photos! I'm thinking of visiting Turkey in September so this is great info.

I'm obviously the minority here. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the architechture style. Except Topkapi, all look a bit too Rococo and not as much Islamic. I visited Alhambra in Granada, Spain in 2009 and absolutely loved the Moorish style. That is the most beautiful palace I've ever seen and I've been to Versaille, Fountainbleu, and the Forbidden City etc. Oh well, I'll see whether I'll like them better in person.

You´re welcome LaPrincess.
The castles are built in a time, where the Sultans wanted to be a little bit western.
You can find Islamic architecture more in the rooms. But I will look after castles with more Islamic art.  Smiley
And I hope you have a pleasant time in Turkey, if you want to visit it!

Thanks! I'm 95% going. :-) I'm a photography enthusiat. I look at palaces more from artistic angles. I love age, rustic and unique character. I'll have to join a tour group in Turkey. I'll see whether I can spend more time at the Topkapi Palace than the guided tour allows. The paint on some of the other palaces are a little bit too "new" in the photos. I don't like that at all. One reason why I like Alhambra so much is its unique architechure character and it shows its age but it shows it well.

I got some great photos at Alhambra. I reserved two tickets in advance for Alhambra, one at 10AM and one at 3PM. I went in to photograph Generalife, the summer palace on the same hilltop site as the Nasrid Palace, when it opens the door at 8:30AM and then went in to Nasrid Palace twice to photograph it in different light. When I finished by 6PM, I went to Albacin, the Arabic quarter on the opposite hill, to photograph Alhambra basking in the golden light at sunset. I spent the entire day photographying Alhambra. I can do that because I was traveling alone in Spain at the time. I'll see what I can do in Turkey.

This is much more to my liking. Unfortunately, I don't think this place is on my itinerary.

Miss W., apart from these breathtaking castles and palaces, I'm also very interested in their embroidery. Do you think you could find pics of embroidered pieces of fabric, like pillow covers or tableclothes, that date back in the Ottoman empire..?
Here's your well-deserved star Star in advance!
