I can't change my avatar pic. This is currently a problem for me. I want to change it to one I have hosted somewhere else. I also tried uploading it from my computer but no dice.

Its a little strange that problem. I have never had it. And I just tried to change my avatar just now, and it worked fine. Sometimes though it seem you have to wait for the change to take effect. And of course you should make sure the name of the image doesn't contain characters not suited for a file name.

Hi Thomas -
under Additional Options...it shows only these three things: - Notify me of replies. - Return to this topic. - Don't use smileys.
It doesn't give me the option to attach pics anymore. Is that new?

Yes I disabled that function. The reason i disabled it is becauce attached images use RD bandwith whereas linked images use another sites bandwith (usually some image service site). When we change host we have to pay for bandwith and since I really don't have any idea how much we use now, I want to proceed with caution It will most likely be enabled again soon.

The reason i disabled it is becauce attached images use RD bandwith whereas linked images use another sites bandwith (usually some image service site). Actually most of the people here who post pictures don't use image service sites. They just hotlink the pictures directly from the original source and steal the bandwidth of those sites. There are many image service sites specifically geared towards hosting pictures that people could be using instead of taking the bandwidth of the original sites. TinyPic.com, Imageshack.us, Imagetitan.com, and Photobucket.com are some of the sites that I use on a regular basis to upload and post pictures at other forums as most of them don't allow hotlinking at all. If you're posting the pictures directly from other sites (zimbio, daylife, getty, cotilleando, etc.), then you're hotlinking. It takes a little more time to post pictures when you save the pictures and upload them to dedicated picture servers, but it's the right way. Hotlinking is theft, period. What Is Hotlinking And Why Is It Bad?

Hotlinking - aka right clicking and copying a URL to post a picture - steals bandwidth. Save pictures to your hard drive and upload to any of the numerous free hosting sites. LINK: What Is Hotlinking And Why Is It Bad?

Hi - I'm pretty new to posting on the boards (been lurking for a while). Is there something I'm missing about staying logged in? I seem to get automatically logged out after about an hour...is there a way to set my preferences to stay logged in forever? Or "remember me" functionality or the like?
Hope this is the right thread to post this in...thanks!

Hi gudgeon, yes there is if you log in you can choose for how long...check the box for "Always stay logged in:" (under your ID & Password). Then you stay logged in even if you shut your computer off.

Thanks so much , PeDe! I realized I was only logging in at the top right-hand corner of the page so never saw that box. All set now! Y'all are so great - such quick replies - thanks!

I have uploaded a new avatar, but the old one keeps showing - how can I fix this?
I have tried, saving no pic, then saving new pic. I have definitely clicked change profile.

Try setting it to "Personalized Picture", then save, and then upload a new avatar.
