It must have been, because I do know to teach English overseas you do need some sort of qualification for it, not just be an English speaking person with none. What a lot of rot!

Everyone - EVERYONE - leaves a foot print of their history.  Her 'teacher' career left nothing.  No former students.  No fellow teachers.  No friends.  Which I take to mean was nothing.  She was a kept woman in a Parisian apartment.

How.... elegant.

On the other hand, maybe she taught English to herself.  She failed.
Agreed, there is always some evidence of our actions. Hanzo, she may have taught privately, but noone has come forward to my knowledge about it at all  Crap

It's also surprising how the DRF mentions nothing of the school etc... when they even added her father's CV to fatten up her biography.

I don't think they added the father's CV to fatten up her biography.  They did it for Alex and Marie too.  I think it's more for background info.

Yeah I love that Marie is so honest about her speaking both in danish / french. I understand that sometimes it's just so much more relaxing to speak in your mother language  Thumb up

But considering that Mary has been living here in Denmark so much longer than Marie - and insists to pretend that se ONLY speak in danish in her daily life, I think it's ridiculous! So funny that Freddie denied it haha  Yikes Marys accent is much "fatter" than Maries, so that just one more point, where Marie "over shines" her Sil  Thumb up

The new pictures of Mary, OMG she looks so OLD!  Shocked So skinny - it's almost sick to look at! She's just as skinny as Kate - Maybe it's positive that you can't tell, that she gave birth to 4 children, but still...I don't like it! She looked so much healthier and prettier when her name was still "just" Donaldson, and not as now "Crown Princess of Prada"! Even Prada can't hide her aging!  Whistle Angel

I don't recall Fred denying that Mary spoke Danish all the time (I don't doubt it - it could look like him to do something passive-aggressive like that!). Do you remember where it was reported or do you have a link. I would love to get my hand on that gem.

It was one of their many empty interviews (I cannot recall which one as they've done lots) and in the article Mary said something along the lines that they only ever speak Danish at home. Fred then chipped in and made some sort of sarcastic comment and then winked/smirked indicating that this wasn't the case.

Sorry I cannot be more specific but it was definitely posted on the board.

Wasnt it that empty interview in that Sunday rag mag Parade in the US where Freddles also said he was the son of QEll?

I'm not sure.  Confused

But I think they were sitting around the breakfast table or something. It's hard to keep up though. They've done so many empty interviews.  Roll Eyes

True, it was "Parade":

I think the operative word is "speak."  Fred and Mary don't speak to each other at home.  Not in Danish.  Not in English.  Not in ancient Sanskrit.

That sums up Mary to perfection.

No-one would really mind if she spoke English. It's her mother tongue and, so long as she had a basic proficiency in Danish, it would be forgiven.

It's the pretending that gets me. She has to pretend to be an expert and she has to pretend she speaks it 24/7 because she thinks that is what people demand of her.  And she wants to project an image of being perfect, so she will lie in order to achieve that.

I've seen more substance in a puddle of mud.

I know so many people who've lived in Denmark way longer than Mary, speak Danish more fluently and use Danish all day long (mostly English speakers, some French and one Spanish). Not one of them struggles to find the words in their native tongue. So I would say that if she is already struggling to find words in the only language she spoke until her 30's, then she's an idiot at languages and there's no hope for her ever mastering Danish  No

I can tell you with 100% certainty that a person DOES NOT lose words in their native language (especially when they only started to speak the second language in their 30s).  The only exception to this would be if they suffered from a brain injury; most likely they would lose words in both languages, not just one or the other.

And if anyone doubts this, I will be happy to cite 100s of studies that back this up and to refer you to experts in the field who will tell you the exact same thing.  If there are any reporters reading on this site, consider this the next time you want to praise Mary's Danish or believe the lies about how "flawless" it is, or about how she's "lost" words in English.  It's not possible.

I never really understood if that Parade article was tongue-in-cheek or if the journalist was serious. Decision to include comments about his mother being Queen of England would indicate the journo was taking the piss; similarly, there's no way the journalist could assess Mary's Danish as flawless or not, so stating that is was so could also have been a satire of syncophantic pro-royal journalism. In general, I just couldn't believe that article, so part of me thought it could be deadpan humor on the part of the journalist.  Thinking

The journalist was probably annoyed that they had to interview these two when they could have been covering real news.  They were probably also hating the fact that they were stuck writing for Parade Magazine (it's a free insert that comes with the Sunday newspaper-nobody goes out of their way to buy it).
