Poor Beatrix, everytime I see her face there's just no spark like there used to be. I imagine it's so hard for her to function at things like this and the wedding this past weekend...Friso has to be on her mind constantly.
She might welcome the distraction. Sitting idle letting something like that consume you can be the beginning of the end. I agree that the best thing for her is to stay active. I hope she has some sort of peace in her life at the moment.

Wasn't this visit supposed to occur at an earlier date? I remember them postponing a state visit from Italy, but I can't remember why. Maybe it was because of Friso's accident?
IIRC it was postponed for a health problem of the Italian president, as we can see in the photos he looks fragile, he's almost 90 years old. Bea didn't exchange an order with them? That seems odd. They can't wear a sash on a tuxedo, it's a very strange dress code for a state visit That is a very weird dress code. I'm surprised that the wife didn't also get an order from Bea. I guess they just give the order to the PM/President/Whatever in charge. In DK, the partner of the guest usually gets an order too. I thought the Dutch also did this, but maybe I'm confusing them with the Danes. I didn't realize Napolitano was that old. I guess I thought he was younger than Bunga-Bunga Berlusconi. Considering that Bea's sister got an Italian order and that consorts almost always receive an order (even if it's not as important as the one the president receives) I'm willing to bet that she didn't wear hers because of the black tie dress code or a mistake.

Sitting around home gives you time to think and time to think makes your mind wander into depression in these situations.

Where is Maxima? She never misses a chance to dress up. She was in Nigeria for UN and G20 functions from Oct 22-24 Yesterday's evening event was a concert of the violist Uto Ughi. PPe has some more pictures http://www.ppe-agency.com...h=24-10-2012%20Diligentia
