I love Max' dress, it's absolutely beautiful. It has a gorgeous flow, and the fabric is delicious. Not too keen on the hat, but have seen far worse on Max, so I'll let it pass.

I'm hearing "Don't cry for me Argentina" when looking at these pics. That was my first thought as well. Eva Peron. It looks as if she's auditioning for Evita.

NO indeed, all other European monarchies will have a King and Queen consort or a Queen and a prince consort. The NL a few years back changed a couple of things (among them introducing the absolute primogeniture allowing the firstborn daughter to become heir apparent (instead of presumptive) thus giving Amalia the title of 'princess of Orange' down the road. A title that was until now only for the men, neither Wilhelmina nor Juliana or Beatrix ever were princesses of Orange) Plus considering that for three generations the spouse of the monarch had only carried the title of a "prince of the Netherlands" the new law stated that this would apply for female and male spouses equally. Well they hadn't reckoned with Maxima and her ego... Interesting stuff. Thanks! I hadn't been aware of that Maxima's dress is fab, very chic and classic but she's ruined it with the hat and sash tucked underneath the draping. I do like the dress, but I hate the hat. Once again I have to say that this is the strangest dresscode of all. Long dresses for a daytime event, but no tiaras though hats and decorations are required. While I like tradition, I'm thinking that this is one that could go by the wayside one day. Let the ladies dress in daytime suits and dresses with hats/gloves if necessary. There are enough broaches, bracelets and earrings in the Orange's vault to outfit the entire female line in the House of Orange so we'd still see plenty of sparkle. Let W-A, Prof. Pieter and Tijn continue with what they are wearing.

Max does seem to be getting a little arrogant and smug lately. If Bea is trying to push them into the forefront, Wax should be in the center. He will be the first Dutch King in over a century. Max will only be the consort. Her status has gone to her head and she is another foreign-born princess who seems to think that she is the star of the RF. I do admire her pre-princess work and I think the A team is adorable, but I had to air my complaints about her.

She is definitely giving the impression from these photos that (she thinks) it's all about HER.

When you talk to dutch people, they do tell you that it is indeed all about Maxima. She is the absolute star of the family. If you want a royal for any occassion, you'd be trying for Maxima. Apparently (I have been told!!!) there are even more requests for her attendance than for the QueenBee and Doughboy.
So tbh, this admiration would turn many heads and give a person with an already big ego the feeling that not even the sky is the limit. I do think that the QueenBee is pushing them ( "them" as in WaxMax) into the middle and that it is only a question of months until the big announcement is made (I was shocked at how frail the QueenBee appeared and how tipsily and unsteadily she walked) but until Maxima can completely upstage her husband as king, I find it improper for her to be in the middle of the balcony doing an Evita.

Interesting insight, fairy. I'm not really familair with the dynamics but how popular is W-A? I may be mistaken but it seems to me that unlike Fred he isn't very popular himself so the Dutch strategy seems to be to promote Max in the hope that her popularity will rub off on him.

"Don't cry for me, Argentina..."Wtf does she think? I like her dress and I like the hat, but not together. The hat with another dress on a less formal occasion, ok. But even with such a big hat she can't hide her ugly hair...
