Thank you, abs, for the gorgeous flowers!!! Thanks, Henny and Christina too! P.S. Since when did I become the "Lap Princess"? It makes me think of...ur, a certain profession. Geta, I think you're the first to call me LAP. I know my congrats greetings are tacky, but I love finding them online, and the tackier, the better!

yes, at the expense of the aussie tax payer!! Going home on holiday is a simplistic reason for this tour. The DRF could well afford the airfare and accommodations in Tasmania. The Aussies have to pay for security, though, even for a private holiday, but they do that for any dignitary visiting the country. The official part of this visit was solely for Mary to promote herself. If you didn't know F&M, but you saw the photos and videos, you would've thought that Mary was the "somebody" not Fred. She behaves like a freak - completely OTT for someone who's only achievement was to marry the heir of a minor kingdom that has little to do with Australia. Even though Diana was the undisputed star of the BRF while she was a member of it, she always deferred to QEII and Charles in public events. There was no ignoring the sovereign or heir to wave and smile to her fans and mug for the cameras. AFAIK, there was no official event to view a giant portrait of herself which she had already seen several years earlier. Unfortunately, the VIP treatment the Aussies gave Mary only feeds her megalomania. She'll simply be back for more. Military jets flying her around? Being hosted by high level government officials? Inventing useless events where Mary can show off her latest frocks? I can't explain why the Aussie gov't goes all out for Mary. It speaks to the negotiation skills of her handlers. The Aussie government should take a page from the POTUS' playbook: ignore the consort to the heir of the minor royal family. There's no way the U.S. government would've provided military jets to fly Princess Grace around though Grace was an American commoner who also married royalty (at a time when that mattered) and she was a huge star in her own right.

My guess is the reason the Australian government (as opposed to the majority of Australians) sucked up to Mosh and made such a fuss was to take as much of the public's scrutiny as possible form them (ie the government and Julia Gillard) and the almighty mess they are making of the country..not to mention the huge payrise the politicians just awarded themselves whilst so many are unemployed losing jobs, struggling to make ends meet and generally bleeding. A "noice" little look-a-me tour by and ex-Aussie nobody who made good was probaly a godsend for Julia.

It's our own fault for allowing the government to get away with paying themselves so much extra. They all need a massive reality check.
