Good post Hester, very interesting observations. The fact that she presents herself plastered and waxy to ensure good photos, rather than a personable appearance to real people in front of her, is a clear indication of her self obsession.
Hester, how did you manage to come within a metre of Moshy?

Hester, you wrote: "with no cameras around, she dropped the fake sing-song Danish accent" Does she just sound like a regular Aussie ? You would think she would want to sound like that here, as she is supposedly 'Australia's CP'

Before Fred, Mary was just another Eastern suburbs social climber, desperately sniffing around the z-list and trying to ingratiate herself.
Now she's a Princess. By virtue of Fred, she means something. All those celebs who ignored her years ago - she's now higher than them on the social scale.
She's happy because this trip is triumphant. She has made it. All that scrambling and sleeping with footy players and she won the biggest jackpot of all.
Unfortunately, that jackpot is a drunken husband who loves blondes, four kids who she probably can't remember the names of, and a life in Denmark where she can't speak the language and has no friends outside of Fred.
In her mind, this is triumph. Any normal / intelligent person looks at her and sees an empty carcass.
I bolded the above as you are right...Fred is teh only reason she is where she is now, so maybe she should show him some respect and deference

The hoi polloi were herded to two places around Canberra which were publicised events - but the gallery visits weren't publicised at all and there was minimal security. I saw the barriers from a slight distance and wended my way - and there were only about a dozen people standing around in the rain. Maybe 20. Because of the direction I was walking from, I hit the barrier right at the gallery entrance, and right next to the only children in the crowd. Seriously, Mosh's face was a metre from me - but she was zoned in on the kids and totally lacked the Queen's capacity to relate to a small crowd. She also moved very fast - no consideration for "fans" at all. I am still blown away by the artifice of the reality, compared to the photographic image. It's totally counterintuitive! The press didnt' use any footage because they were sheltering from the rain and holding fire for the main events I think - certainly not one photo of MOSh at the second gallery she visited (as opposed to the National Portrait Gallery across the road) has surfaced. One other thing that was a surprise though, was that her vibe was actually extremely - highly - scarily - intelligent. I think she is a very, very cunning shrewd rat and will outsmart Fred and the DRF at every turn. They are done for. Nothing worse than a highly intelligent psychopathic narcissist. Utterly frightening - I can see know just why Prins Joachim and Prinsesse Marie give her a wide berth. You simply don't go near a psychopath, you take shelter and avert your eyes ... just as Jokke and Marie are doing. Just thank your lucky stars Aussies that she is out of Australia and is the DRF household's problem. When she is Queen she will be a menace. Poor stupid Fred. Mary is a chimera.

A couple of days ago, there was a news report about Mary at the Sea Sculptures. They showed the footage of her tripping up the hill, then laughing and re-enacting it.
The reporter commented that Mary seems more relaxed in Oz, because back in Denmark she is always concentrating on not "putting a foot wrong".
I noticed that the other European princesses seem far more relaxed, and less concerned about their appearance. It's as though they have a lot of support from their partners, which gives them the confidence to be relaxed in public. I think Mary and Fred were like this in the beginning, but something changed and Mary became neurotic.

I was looking at some of the older pics of them and the distance I guess you can call it started to really show about the time Isabella was around 2

Hester: you were a metre away from her, looked her square in the eye and did not yank up your camera (it's a reflex she would have looked right in!) and screamed: "Mares, say hi to your friends at Royaldish" ? Imagine the photos.... Teeth bared, make-up tearing, she in full swing, probably going for your throat, bodyguards not knowing whom to protect (wrestling down the person they have sworn to protect is a tad uncomfortable) and in the back Fred jumping up and down with joy, clapping, cheering you on... Well on second thought, you were not geared up, and to wrestle down the unleashed Mares is nothing for the unprepared...

I should have called out to Fred, "How's Katya!" - but of course I didn't think of it ...

It would be fun to watch her read it

I don't get the impression that the other CPs are trying to be stars. Some like Max are naturally outgoing and are really comfortable in public. Others like Leti and Mathhilde are reserved but accept the public appearances as a necessary part of their job. Mary is the only one who really feeds off the publicity. She pursues publicity. She started really early -- as soon as she could after the wedding because fame was one of the things she was was after. She used Fred and then left him behind long ago in her pursuit of fame.

Spot on poca. A truer statement has not been made. Mary actually only wanted fame - the princess thing is a bonus. Recall her presence in a couple of TV commercials. That was way before fred.

She's deluded. I agree with both these posters. I think in Mary's mind she is a far greater star than any Royal born, because she was chosen (by Derf), not simply Royal by accident of birth. I also think she has always had a hugely inflated sense of her own magnificence. On the pre-wedding Marymentary, one of her ex bosses alluded to this by saying she always wanted to be rushing ahead, wanting to do things for which she had neither ability nor training and to attain positions beyond her capabilities (of course he worded it dar more diplomatically than I have done). In other words she has always had grandiose notions of who she is and what she can do.

I found this very interesting. I have known women of exactly this type and I agree they can be terrifying and many people will simply go along with what they want rather than upset them - I know I have done this. I am by no means unintelligent but I don't have the extra layer of psychopathic manipulation that I think - and agree - you say Mary has. Most unpleasant.
