I agree Barrie, but I also think that Mary used her obsessive cunning to ensure that he didn't forget her, after their first encounter. Lets not forget she quickly dumped her friend's ?leaving work party in order to attend the gathering of royals at the Slipp Inn with Beatrice Tarnawski and others, and also gatecrashed the Danish handball team's party at a later date in order to reconnect with Fred. She had no qualms about using Beatrice, then dropping her like a stone when her relationship with Fred became serious. Within weeks she was striding like a tranny lumberjack at Starmakers, hell bent on getting her man. Sure there was an element of luck, but I'm sure that Mary was singlemindedly determined in her pursuit of Fred, and nothing or no-one could stop her. The description of her as a psychopath is an apt one, IMO.
Agreed. Absolutely, luck gave Mary opportunity. But she capitalized on every opportunity that came her way. She got her claws in and didn't let go. I'm fairly certain if Marge hadn't engaged her and Fred, she would be Waity Mary, hanging around as long as Fred wanted her to. She made herself out to be the person she thought Fred wanted - uncomplicated, sporty, easy, etc. She made herself available to Fred 24x7 at the expense of building her own career and relationships. She kept friends and family from talking about her and Fred. And most remarkable of all, she kept away from the press pre-wedding. Knowing how publicity hungry and narcissistic she truly is, we know that last one of keeping away from the press for 4 years took a huge amount of determination and discipline for her. But she knew what she needed to do to get where she wanted to go. Post wedding, she has crafted an image of the glamorous princess with her designer clothes, fixed smiles, and dextrous handling of bouquets. She has also honed the mother icon image by sprouting 4 kids. She has courted the press to grow her popularity to get the public on her side. It appears to be working as most Danes seem to be drinking the Mary Kool-Aid. It won't be easy for the DRF to get rid of her. While she is supremely annoying to most RD'ers, she hasn't done anything Fergie-like to turn public opinion about her - also probably a huge exercise in self-control for her. Mary's exterior changes as needed (which is a strong sign of illness, cunning, and manipulation), but what's constant is the narcissistic personality disorder that governs all her actions. Couldn't agree more!! The only way I think the DRF are going to be able to rid themselves of her is if she either does something ala fergie (which I doubt will happen) or 'palace insiders' start leaking stories to the press to turn public opinion

Mary needs to be with humiliating acts like a bachelor Fred and with his friends who back him up , she needs to live in Denmark which she doesn't seem to like- rarely leaves the palace and don't care much for the Danes does not value what they give her That's why she isn't happy there

I think you are giving Mary far too much credit. Mary's life is all about timing and luck. Mary was a girl that was appealing because she was so different than any girl he had ever dated. She was smart, kept her mouth shut and I the thought of returning to Australia to sail whenever he wanted was appealing. She could also be controlled as well as her family with money. They were just middle class enough to be respectable for the Danes back home and again, they whole Australian/exotic aspect appealed to the Danes as well. Also, Mary was lucky to ride the coattails of a divorce that rocked the DRF and insured Mary her marriage wouldn't suffer the same fate.
Spot on Barrie That is exactly the background to this marriage. Unfortunately, a couple of factors were miscalculated. Mary's desire to outshine Fred is diminishing him publicly, not that he had much profile to begin with. It's not good for the commoner to present herself as the star turn. Fun to begin with but the novelty wears off and it eventually tarnishes the royal family. Plus Mary's family/friends aren't at the class level the Danes expected. They are lower middle class, and this is noticed by the Danes. It highlights Mary's narcissistic self-importance and makes her look 'jumped up'. This is not a good perception for a royal wife.

IA. The novelty that was Mary's "middle-class" family soon wore off the DRF. Educated? Maybe, but a very ordinary 'Stayan family, and as it turns out, not averse to dipping their snouts in the DRF trough. It seems that now, Marge avoids them like the plague, which is saying something. Barrie, Pocahontas Jusaca DA when time permits.

Fred is a mess. But I am not sure Marge gives a hoot or even notices. She is too busy with herself. As a mother, she wasn´t worth much, as a grandmother - she hardly sees her grandkids. She is about MARGE and somewhat about Henri, nothing else.

They can't do anything that will tarnish their image further. They will have to make sure that however she falls, she doesn't take them with her.

Well, it does make me wonder whether the story of Mary's free-loading habit at various stores was "leaked" by Fred's camp, sort of Charles vs. Diana all over again. If the DRF is smart, they should plant a good looking, attentive young man as Mary's assistant or someone she has to deal with on a daily basis. With an inattentive hubby, the attention-seeking older children and crying twins, her own fading youth/looks, it's not that hard to create a Fergie incident. All it takes is someone who will make MEvita feel young and desirable again.
