I also don't see any sign of mental illness on Henrietta, and will not believe it until I hear it from a psychiatrist.
I haven't as yet seen or heard a psychiatrist speak about mary - does that mean she is not mentally ill?

You wonīt hear any analyses from a psychiatrist regarding Henrietta. But you canīt deny that there is something wrong with Mary.

I think she looks like a very pretty woman actually - it must be the Donaldson-genes that bring the fug, sorry to say it so bluntly. Having lost a parent myself, I find the way Mary spoke of Susan very, very strange. I wonder if Mary hasn't always been most close to John.
I remember mosh saying early on in an interview prior to her marriage that her father was the disciplinarian, and the mother softer. She did weep when she spoke about her mothers memory, however whether that was a put on or not, I don't know. The mother does look soft and kindly in those pictures, and certainly the kids look more like their father IMO. She does look nice - and much better than any of her daughters. Pa Slurpson said that all the children took after their mother, but I canīt see that. I remember one thing Mary said about her mother. She took Mary to riding lessons even though she did not like horses, and was even afraid of them. I don't know much about Mary's mother but the "great love" comment regarding Susan Moody has always rubbed me the wrong way. I hope there wasn't any malice behind it and like other's have said more "foot in mouth" syndrome. From what little I have read, Henrietta appears to have had more a more introverted quiet type personality. If by chance she did suffer from mental illness, I don't see that as shameful or reflecting poorly on Mary. Lord knows Mary does a good enough job of showing what type of person she is without projecting a mental illness onto that her mother may or may not have suffered from.

Her mum looks realy nice and friendly. Didn't get that vibe from her daughters. They are the true princesses of boganville.

The Donaldson sisters are quite masculine and look like their father IMO. Their mother looks more attractive.

The truth is not simply what you think it is; it is also the circumstances in which it is said, and to whom, why, and how it is said.

Was just googling for info on Etta and found this.... someone has posted a meatloaf recipe which she says she got from Etta: "My mom got this recipe when we lived in Tasmania, Australia from her friend Etta Donaldson. My dad and her husband, John taught together at the University of Tasmania. Etta was a very beautiful Scottish woman, with 4 boisterous children. Her eldest Jane and I were good friends. Sadly, I have lost touch with the family, but I have very fond memories of watching Australian Rules football games, and running around in their big back yard." http://www.food.com/recip...onaldsons-meatloaf-464303

agree. Mary makes it like it's her mother's fault she wasn't able to become the love of JD life. my dad died when l was very very young, he & my mom didn't get along, l don't blame him or her for that, and also a child doesn't really know what happens between his parents. l would never dream of disrespecting his memory in the way Mary did her mother, have some respect for the dead, what a stupid woman if her mother had a mental health problem l would expect some compassion from Mary towards her, some forgiveness.

I think in the Mary documentary, her exact words were about Susan my father's "great love". Not quite as bad as saying the love of her father's life but I still thought it was inappropriate at the time and a bit insensitive to her mother's memory and her siblings.
I remember exactly the same thing: "my father's great love". A bit insensitive but very "Mary"...superficial, I mean. she was trying to sound clever and fun and she ended up sounding stupid, as usual.

Mary's brother looks more like their mother than the sisters do. Personality wise he's more like his mother too I think.
It's funny how Henrietta looked regal at her wedding whereas Mary looked demented and desperate.

... because she (the daughter) was demented and desperate ... and still is.
