Congratulations to the new little family. Geraldine is a nice honor/reference to ancestry.
BTW I guess I totally missed she was pregnant.

Yeah, I didn't realize she was pregnant either.
Congratulations to them! Love her name and the meaning behind it.

I read about it in the news and they salivated at the titles: translating Royal highness with royal majesty....

I can never hear the name Geraldine without thinking of Flip Wilson. Yay for a new baby, but I find it very hard to find much enthusiasm for this family knowing their not that distant history. What happened? I can remember anything from my history classes

I just read an interesting article on ex-Royals in the Atlantic, it discusses quite a few ex royal families, but is mostly concerned with Prince Leka, it’s a good interview and I do recommend it! It sounds like he has found a way to more or less fit in with modern Albania. Even though there seems no chance of a restoration, and honestly Albania’s monarchy hardly has deep roots, he’s found a role since Albania is having such a difficult time it needs all the help it can get. https://www.theatlantic.c...a-europe-monarchy/629368/

It does seem like Leka has found a really good balance in Albania as a member of a former royal family. I feel like it's weird when they claim or use titles but don't even spend any time in the countries or make an effort there.

Yes, I think the only excuse is if the government has banned the ex royal from entering, but once that ban has lifted I think anyone claiming a title from somewhere had better find a way to fit into that society. Leka has done a good job! I don’t think he will get anywhere with trying to establish his daughter as his heir though, for all that he thinks he can. It’s such a hardcore patriarchal society. I was glad to read he is trying to counter that by doing things like publicly caring for his own child, but really the fact that he gets pushback on such a fundamental thing as that makes me think Geraldine will find it hard to gain acceptance as head of the family.

I was surprised by the christening. I know Albania is a Muslim country, and I thought the former royals were also Muslim. Guess not.

According to their website Leka is Muslim and his wife is Albanian Orthodox and it seems like they’ve had Catholicism and Anglicanism in the mix as well! “ An excellent example of religious co-existence is reflected in the Royal Family: The Queen Mother Sadije Toptani was a Bektashi Muslim, King Zog a Sunni Muslim, Queen Geraldine a Catholic, Queen Susan an Anglican. Prince Leka is Muslim and Princess Elia is an Albanian Orthodox.” https://albanianroyalcourt.al/royal-house/
