Thereís video of him walking out to the car without any assistance, so he must be feeling better than he looks in those pictures (on my mobile so no link for now).

It's probably the rarest of sightings: Philip unshaven and a little bit less than sartorially perfect. But hey, he's earned that right.

He looks dreadful in that first picture.

I think this could be his last Xmas, pity not all the family will be there.

Sad

Bottom photo looks like a black eye or eye injury? It stated he had a fall, I hope itís nothing too serious.

His eyes do look very red and irritated. I wonder if he had some kind of procedure. Bless him. He is showing his 98 years now. I hope they have a wonderful Christmas.

Oh Phil. He looks every second of those 98 years now.

Mike tindall mentioned in a recent podcast that he and zara are spending christmas at home this year with peter, autumn, and mark philips. Reason was they'll be leaving for australia on boxing day. It was probably recorded before Philip was in hospital but after the bp christmas luncheon. Maybe they'll give Philip a call before they leave.

I wonder what Anne's doing if her kids are all staying in Gloucestershire?

Sandringham Christmas attendance is going to be small this year...

Big house (12): Queen, Charles & Camilla, York Family, & Wessex family
Anmer (5): Cambridge Family
either big house or Wood Farm (1): Philip

unknown (2): Anne & Tim

doing something different (11): the OTs, Phillips Family, & Tindall Family

The Snowdon's and Chatto's often attend for Christmas as well so maybe they will be there as well - adding another 8 to the party.

For some reason I always forget about them.  That's very possible.  I wonder when was the last time they came for Christmas Day.

Update:  They (Linley and Chatto Families) were last there in 2015.

Difficult to see him like that.

He is one of my favourite royals and somehow he did not change that much for the past two decades which gave the feeling that he was kind of immortal. It seemed so sure that he reaches his 100st birthday and that he would always be there. And now, all of a sudden, old age is catching up with him.

It was good to see that he still have his principles (e.g. wearing suit and tie when released from hospital, walking to the car) but there is a bit of mortality in the air that was never there before. I hope for the Queen that he recoveres and is there for a while that she does not have to face the current family crisis on her own.

Most very frail elderly people have this tearing reddish eye problem, just to make sure the eyes are hydrated enough and not prone to infections, salves and eyedrops are often prescribed. Still many people suffer from watering eyes once they go outside. So I can imagine this is Philipp's problem as well.
As to being unshaven or rather badly shaven, at 98 one's skin is also extremely fragile and the slightest pull and scrape could cause a cut or a rupture, which in turn takes far too long to heal, can cause infections and typically bleds to an ugly bruise, that mares your face for days.
So it is really advisable to avoid shaving such critical areas too often or too closely.
But yes, life is quite fatal and all there is left is to wish him the loveliest and happiest of days.

He is one of my alltime favourites. Blessings, Sir!

For an 98 year old Philip looks totally ok. I know people 30 years younger, who're far worse.

I wish him all the best and hope he has still some years left to enjoy.
