I’m pretty sure I’ll be in the minority by saying this, but I think the DoE will make it at least another two years.  At least I hope he does.

I hope for her that he does, especially now in that difficult family situation. He did not look great before Christmas. But then he might hang in there.

I know there is no precedent for retiring in England, but then people didn’t live as long as now and heirs inherited thrones when they were relatively young and energetic. I am sure the Queen is sharp as a tack but at 93, she’s got to be slowing down some and maybe is too tired to deal with nonsense. I think it would be good for her to retire. Charles is clearly up to the job.

Does anyone know how Phillip and HM actually feel about/like Camilla? Personally?

I wonder if her Platinum Jubilee will be as big as her Diamond Jubilee?

They will make a show ... but I don't think they will make it as big as the Diamond Jubilee. It is two years from now and she will be 95. If she makes it everyone will be aware that it is more likely that it will be more a good bye to her - even if she happens to turn 105 (given her genes it is a possibility) nobody can say that and it would be highly unusual.

I think if it takes place she will receive Thanks because nobody knows then how much time is left for her. Sadly I think that DoE will not make it to her Diamond Jubilee so it will be a moment of sadness and remembering him as well.

I guess the celebrations will also include Charles (who will have a very short reign, given his age) and William who, despite being #3 might be king pretty soon.

But I doubt people thought back then TQ would live another 7 years like she has now. I think you are right though. It won’t be as big but more of a goodbye and respecting all she has done.

Philip's on record at some point - in a letter to Diana that was disclosed by Burrell - as saying he couldn't understand why Charles would leave Diana for Camilla.  BUT that comment was based on both women's looks alone, as I recall.  I don't think he ever (or ever will) looked deeply enough at either woman, beyond that.  (He's an intelligent man but really stunted in exceptional ways.)  My semi-educated guess (for what it's worth, based solely on reading bios and other things) is that the Queen and the DoE are probably just relieved that Camilla is a "sensible sort" who keeps Charles happy and won't do anything radical.  They probably like her and appreciate her for that, but don't gush over her.  The Queen especially can be uptight about infidelity and all that with the Wales & Parker-Bowles bothered her, as I recall (from reading, again probably Burrell's books or someone's bio.)

Adding to the above answer: I think Philip had the old way of thinking "duty" and "no fuss". He could not understand how Charles went after a married woman creating all that fuss while he had Diana. I don't think they dislike Camilla. I think the Queen has more in common with Camilla than with Diana.

Suspect that Camilla's discretion and willingness to do whatever for Charles and the Crown while discretely getting in her own family time away from cameras keeps her in good standing. Plus she likes horses and dogs and Scotland what's not to love.

I think that’s true. Regardless of personal feelings, they probably admire her circumspect behavior and grace under pressure.

Camilla is a true example of:

a) Putting up with a rabid rabid press that was also fed by her rival, not to mention a truly embarassing phone hacking situation. And we aren't talking since marriage or the divorce, like since the 1970s. They've calmed down with regards to her because she didn't give them any more reason to harass her because:

b) She kept her head down, was sensitive to the people's feelings about the situation, position and title, and does her job with grace and humor. I can imagine when Charles is crowned it will be she who pushes for the Princess Consort title (yes I know it doesn't exist but hell why not, since titles are all over the place now) or some other title to avoid the whole Queen title issue. And:

c) She has made the position work for her. We don't really see a lot of her family, but she quietly goes and does her thing with them. She does appearances but still has her quiet space away from the circus. She has her charity focuses and initiatives but also shows up to support Charles. Had it not been for some truly outdated thinking about virginity, there may not have been a 40 year speed bump of insanity in the BRF. Well, maybe something else would have happened, but the repercussions of all that continue.

The Windsor men all seem like they need a lady of iron marshmallow consistency beside them to sort out the soft power stuff. The Windsor ladies have it in spades already

He has been Prince Charles for 70 something years. By the time we all get used to saying, “King Charles”, he will be gone. With all Camilla had to go through for him, I think Charles will insist on Queen. His reasoning will be “They called her everything else, now they can call her Queen”.

I’m not a particular fan of Camilla (although she’s surprised me by how well she’s done the job).  But my thinking on this matter is along the lines of yours - in other words, I don’t think it matters much what she’s called because they don’t be in that position very long due to advanced age.

I actually think Charles will have the longevity of his parents.  I think William will be well into his sixties when he Ascends.
