I was very moved by Her Majesty's speech - so many allusions and echoes of words that have inspired in the past and still resonate today. The references to those at the forefront of the efforts today will be well-received; also the reminder that we are all in it together.
I'm another who had tears as I watched and listened.
Ditto, Athena, emtishell It was a beautiful speech, everything she said felt so right and reassuring. I also had tears when listening to her.

The UK is fortunate to have the Queen. I know there’s a faction that would like to do away with the Monarchy, but when it comes to events like this, it seems like she does more to calm and inspire people than any government official or other personage.
I think she’s remarkable. She’s freaking 93 and still out there. Who would have blamed her for retiring YEARS ago, but she’s still going. Sharp as ever. Hopefully her kids and grandkids have been taking copious notes. I know she gets criticism at times, but when I think of the 90+ year olds I know, I sure can’t think of many who could do what she’s doing. Just getting all fixed up to go in front of a camera would be asking a lot. I hope she’ll be around for quite awhile yet.

Beautiful speech, she had me in tears by the end. HM’s gravitas and carisma are impressive.

I have read that her speech was seen by more than 23 million people in the UK (3 out of 4 people watching tv yesterday). That is a great audience, and reactions seem to be super positive. Lilibeth at 93 still rocks. Say what you say about her, but she has a "presence" and managed to hit the right tones in this horrible times And a video of the speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP_hNq6-0S8

Pretty incredible how she can be such a source of comfort and steadfastness across the world.

You could say she was “flexing” Anyhow, it’s difficult to say what the delay in response was about but I would say job well done. Personally I was more touched by Margrethe and, I am guessing, people in countries with their own regents look to their own regents. I suppose these situations are where monarchies can make a difference, if the monarch is a good one. Both QE, Charles and William has done well IMO.

I agree, Maria I also like the speech of Margrethe and of Carl Gustav but of course I have read the translation to English only. The news programs here showed the Queen Elizabeth's speech and I found the delivery so flat but it reads better than it sounded to my ears. As for the people in the countries with the regnant (?) royals looking to those royals I can say I preferred Margrethe to e.g. Felipe and this is with no disrespect to Felipe.

It especially gave comfort to my mother - to hear an older mother type figure that she’s known all her life - say it’s all going to be ok etc Especially as her own mother is deceased.

Parts of HM's speech have been shown on one of the huge billboards in Piccadilly Circus: https://www.standard.co.u...s-billboard-a4410106.htmlExtracts from The Queen’s Message to the Nation are to appear on the world-famous Piccadilly Lights in London.
Expressions of support and inspiration from The Queen will be carried on the Piccadilly Circus screen at 10am and 6pm on Wednesday, April 7 and will run until Sunday, April 19.
It is the first time the digital screen has carried a direct message from Her Majesty The Queen.
Following agreement with Buckingham Palace, three uplifting messages are accompanied by a photograph of The Queen taken at Windsor Castle as she recorded her speech.
They include the words “we will meet again”, something which resonated with people and echoed the words of Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem.
Another message thanks everyone on the NHS frontline, care workers and those carrying out essential roles.
Each message appears on the screen in full domination and does not appear with any other advertising.
The Piccadilly Lights is owned by Landsec. Commercial media manager Derek Manns said: “We’re proud to be sharing the Queen’s message of support for the nation on Piccadilly Lights.
"We hope it will provide some light for Londoners as we continue to work through these unprecedented times.”
Richard Malton, CMO of Ocean Outdoor which operates the Lights on behalf of Landsec, said: “The Queen’s address to the nation was inspirational and reassuring.
"Her Majesty the Queen is London’s most famous resident, where better to extend her message to Londoners than Piccadilly Lights.
