That’s frightening! You know he didn’t have anything good planned if he was armed like that. Absolutely frightening. Everyone must have gotten alerted and hustled somewhere safe until the all-clear was given. And on Christmas Day, just terrible. Thankfully he was caught quickly, but it's really disturbing that anyone would think to do such a thing.

Man found with crossbow at Windsor Castle sectioned https://www.bbc.com/news/...ngland-berkshire-59794378A man has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act after being found in the grounds of Windsor Castle with a crossbow, police have said. The Metropolitan Police said a 19-year-old man from Southampton was arrested at about 08:30 GMT on Christmas Day. It said the man was stopped "within moments" of entering the grounds and he did not enter any buildings. He was searched and a crossbow was found, police said. The man is now "in the care of medical professionals". He had initially been arrested on suspicion of breach or trespass of a protected site, and possession of an offensive weapon. The Queen has been staying at Windsor Castle, rather than spending Christmas as usual on her Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Police had previously said the Royal Family had been informed of the incident. Inquiries into the "full circumstances" of what happened would be continued by the Metropolitan Police Specialist Operations, they said.

The Queen has lost a second loyal aide following the death of Lady Farnham just weeks after the passing of devoted friend and former Mistress of the Robes, the Duchess of Grafton. Lady Farnham, who had been the Queen's Lady of Bedchamber since 1987 and rode with the Queen on the way to her Diamond Jubilee service in 2012, died four days after Christmas aged 90. It follows the death of Ann Fortune FitzRoy, the Duchess of Grafton, aged 101 last month and is another blow after the passing of husband Prince Philip in April. https://twitter.com/Daily.../1477665735489036294?s=20

It must be hard and sad when your peers and contemporaries, people close to you you’ve known for a long time die off in droves. I mean, it is the age. Not many people live well into their 80s and 90s. But sad nonetheless. I feel for her.

Oh, that is FABULOUS! How sweet of her parents to send the photo to HM, especially in this difficult year she surely enjoyed the laugh. The costume is so well done and the doggos are as sweet as little Jalayne. Thank you for posting, PeDe

I am the Queen

https://nos.nl/artikel/24...en-van-de-echte-elizabethLoosely translated as: Mini-Queen from USA gets compliments from the real Elizabeth
When you think of a Halloween costume, you soon see monsters, witches, vampires or zombies. Not so the 1-year-old Jalayne Sutherland from the American state of Ohio, who dressed as the British Queen Elizabeth wanted to go through the doors to collect candy. Her mother decided to send a photo of the toddler to Buckingham Palace. And quite unexpectedly they got an answer.
The girl was dressed in detail like the British queen, complete with hat, wig and pearl necklace. And just like the real Elizabeth, Jalayne was accompanied by two corgis, the Queen's favorite dogs - exactly why the Queen's outfit was chosen.
"The biggest inspiration for the outfit was the fact that our corgis are our daughter's best friends," mother Katelyn told British daily The Sun. "We wanted to do something where the dogs could be part of the dress-up and we're big fans of the royal family."
Majesty Walking through the streets of her hometown, the little queen went to neighbors to collect sweets. "She received a lot of compliments about her outfit," her mother recalls in the newspaper. "The funniest reactions were when people bowed, waved and called her 'Majesty'."
On a whim, Mother Katelyn decided to send photos of the girl dressed up to the royal family and so got a letter back. "The Queen asks me to thank you for the letter and the photo that is attached," writes an assistant to Elizabeth.
"The Queen is very pleased that you have sent her a letter and she was delighted to see the photo of Jalayne in her beautiful outfit."
The Queen's assistant has added some information about Elizabeth's dogs to the letter. "Jalayne might like to read that."

The kids is cute but I am not sure if they are reading too much into that. I work in a secondary school and I am always writing a letter to the Queen when we cover the topic "writing a formal letter". Every time we get a lovely personal letter back - from one of the ladies-in-waiting.

ANDREW DENTON: Yes. What did... When you first met, what did you see in each other? CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK: What did we see in each other? We saw... Well, it's a bit hard. It's a bit blurry, in a way, because it was just after the Olympics had started and it was one of those evenings where...

The ladies-in-waiting aren't 'faceless bureaucrats'. They are quite visible and accompany The Queen on visits etc. They will be the ones who arrive in the car with her (and in 2012 one of her ladies-in-waiting drove in the car with her to St Paul's Cathedral - hardly 'faceless'). The letters used to be handwritten (I have at least half a dozen of those) although these days, and for events like the Jubilee, they are printed with a handwritten extra note at the bottom ... not just a signature of one of the ladies-in-waiting. People like the late Lady Farnham, who died very late last year, was most certainly not a bureaucrat. These are 'ladies' and often the wives of Dukes or Marquises or Earls. They usually are 'on duty' for a two week period. The CC used to even record when they were changed but since the death of the Queen Mother the Queen stopped noting that. https://www.news.com.au/e...907ebca30bea576a1b598cecd

As I said they are now printed and often a personal note is added by the lady-in-waiting who signs them.
