During her trip to the United States, Crown Princess Martha and her lady-in-waiting were inducted into the Delta Zeta sorority as a gesture of goodwill.

In the United States Crown Princess Martha accompanied First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to give speeches at Red Cross rallies. How many speeches did Princess Martha give?

At President Roosevelt's invitation, Crown Princess Martha and her children lived in the White House until they found a more permanent home near Washington, D.C.

Crown Princess Martha was descended from the House of Vasa through her great-great-grandmother, Princess Josephine of Leuchtenberg.

There is a lovely statue of Crown Princess Martha outside the Norwegian embassy in Washington DC. You can see it at this link:

When I married for the second time, my new husband was utterly appalled that I had named one of my daughters Martha. His only frame of reference was the Biblical Martha and he thought that in choosing that name I was condemning her to a lesser life of kitchen drudger and the like.  He had never heard of Crown Princess Martha and how beloved she is by Norwegians and  us Norwegian-Americans. I do think it's a lovely name, albeit not terribly common in the present day.  Perhaps it is still in more common use in ``the old country'' than here in the US.

Crown Princess Martha's father-in-law, King Haakon VII, awarded her the country's highest civilian honor, the Order of St. Olav, for her war efforts and services.
