I think he's finally ditched those brown suede shoes. Or maybe he just doesn't wear them on rainy days.

She is wearing a sølje, which is traditional Norwegian jewelry. Probably pinned in on in lieu of wearing a bunad that day. Most Nowegian women who own bunads have at least one piece of comparable silver jewelry. Long ago the silver was believed to protect the wearer from trolls. And on a woman's wedding day, she would wear at least one sølje-- the word has its roots in the word for ``sun'' and also ``shining'' -- because the bride should be as radiant as the sun.

Yes, thank you Bumbershoot. I have a new rabbit hole to go down. I have a couple of modest silver bunad pins. But I wasn’t aware of how big and more decorated they can be. I know every region has its own bunad and jewels.

Will start exploring now. :-D

Surprised the King wasn't there. I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come. Seems to me this is an event he ordinarily wouldn't miss.

Its clear Haakon is taking over more and more, especially out of house, and events like this with much standing and nowhere to sit.

Haakon has  events pretty much every weekday, many days 2 or 3 events a day, this weekend he had events both saturday and sunday.

I belive when the King joked about needing his "dear crutches" in his recent speech that was a a way of saying he cant do so many events anymore. It  was very clear how difficult the funeral of QE2 was for him, with the stairs, the standing and everything. Had presedence been followed he should have been in the first row, but he was in second and used the back of the chair of Princess Beatrix to hold on to everytime they had to stand.

Well, while I'm glad Haakon is stepping up to fill his dad's shoes, the King's obvious decline makes me sad. Plus, I suspect Martha Louise's shenanigans are weighing heavily on him and the Queen as well.
