In Ingrid biography on the homepage it now says:

"As the Princess grows older, she will carry out more and more official engagements on behalf of the Royal Family."

This is rather new I think, and I found a bit strange/unexpected, I did not expect her to do much official before she finnished school and university (and hopefully a period in the military, would be a great example if she entered for real and not just special courses and visits like Victoria) But I guess it is a realisatsion that in a few years there wont be many royal hands at work in Norway..
I don't know how many working royals can Norway handle but it seems very lonely path if it's only Haakon and IA. The sad truth is that Harald and Sonja do excellent job but they won't be here for ever, MM is sick but apart from that doesn't work much, and SM's behaviour is odd many times, he seems awekward. So the future seems hard for Haakon and IA and I hope that at least IA will have the courage to make bold choices and take tough decisions in order to bring the best to her country and herself as well. I don't know what these choices could be but I wish for her to find a way that suits her personality and at the same time won't hurt anyone else.

I heard that IA is good friends with her cousin Maud. Maybe MLs girls can help out in the future.

Well, Norway has 5,2 million inhabitants. Same as Denmark. They will do fine with Frodo (most likely not working much), Mares (can't work much without getting on people's nerves) and Xian. Sweden has 10 million and it will come down to the core family there as well.

Hakoon followed his heart when he married. MM is sick + unwilling to work. They are just lucky that IA was the heir because she is just lovely.

ML doesn't receive any apenage in yearly basis, only when she represents her family. I have the impression that her girls are learning to live out of the "royal"/public sphere.

Yes, I know. I just meant as a stand in, if they want like Madde in Sweden and bring paid per engagement.

To keep it in the core family is the best solution IMO. Bringing in the girls has a few problems: (1) their number - if you bring in three more people the RF inflates again, (2) they would have to work for a few years and could fade then again - would not be fair on them because one day they will be expected to earn their money like commoners (3) Their mom. ML is just ... well ... if you are dating the shamane and think it is a good idea because angles told you to do so she should be kept away from any offical jobs.

Hakoon: Married the wrong woman. He only has 5.3 million Norwegians to deal with and the best bet is to do that himself until IA is old enough to join him. Problem is Norways geography: it is a very long but narrow country, so if you go North you travel for a long time. But he will manage. And he is doing lovely engagements and comes across very likeable (and maybe someone is just convincing him to give these brown shoes to charity).

MM: We can write her off - and not because of her sickness. She was the wrong woman for the job right from the beginning. She fails at official events and has her only strong points at outdoor events. We have seen her work ethic in the last 20 years and it was horrendous. So now she is having an excuse ... (or is really sick, who knows). Because of the sickness you have to give her the benefit of doubt.

IA is lovely. That is the only consolation. There is not much grooming to do. Beautiful, nice and great spirit. If she stays like that she will graciously start working - and I think Hakoon is sensible enough to give her enough space.

SM. We will see. He is very different from other royal kids. But he is still young and there is room for development. He can't work for another decade or so.

See, he looks better rested now.  His smile meets his eyes again.  It's good to see.

Haakon visited Jan Mayen, an island between Greenland and Norway in the Arctic Ocean, which is administered by Norway. The island has 18 inhabitants, employed by the Norwegian Armed Forces or the Norwegian Institute of Meteorology.
