The rule when I was growing up was that gentlemen do not wear brown shoes with a suit. Cordovan, maybe OK, but never brown.

Well brown shoes with suits, either black, grey or blue have always been extremely classy and perfect for gentlemen in Europe.
Look at Italy who easily win best dressed, the medium brown shoes, with the matching belt and watchband are a classic and the epitome of fashion.

That being said: Haakon's shoes do not fall under the category of above mentioned shoes.... and no Italien worth his panache would be caught dead in them...

H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon participates in a dissemination expedition across the Greenland ice with UiT

This year it is 50 years since King Olav officially opened the University of Tromsø (UiT). On that occasion, UiT will organize a research expedition across Greenland in May. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon participates as one of the expedition members.

UiT Norway's Arctic University has a long tradition of Arctic research and dissemination. It is not only 50 years since the university was officially opened, it is also 150 years since Tromsø Museum was established to "provide and constantly increase a collection [...] from the Arctic" [1]. From the very beginning, northern issues have been central to the university's research and teaching.

The anniversaries will be marked, among other things, with a dissemination expedition across Greenland in May, led by polar historian Harald Dag Jølle. H.K.H. Crown Prince Haakon has agreed to join as an expedition member, and in addition Markus Landrø (UiT and NVE), Vegard Ulvang (UiT), Kunuk Lennert (UiT), and Ronny Finsås (expedition guide) and a bodyguard from the Royal Police Escort.

- We are grateful that H.K.H Crown Prince Haakon has agreed to participate in the expedition and help mark the university's anniversary, says Rector of UiT, Dag Rune Olsen.

Purpose
The purpose of the expedition is to disseminate knowledge and insight about Arctic nature, research and polar history. In addition, the expedition will take regular snow samples to be delivered to climate scientists at the Eastgrip research station, which is located in the middle of the Greenland ice.

Participants will share their experiences from the expedition and their knowledge of the pioneers of polar history through text and images published on uit.no/uit-i-arktis and the university's platforms in social media.

- We hope many will follow the expedition and thus be able to join the ice to experience, see and understand more of Greenland's past and present, and what role the inland ice will play for our common future, says the expedition's leader Harald Dag Jølle.

UiT has also entered into an agreement with NRK, which will make a documentary based on recordings made along the way by the expedition participants. The press is free to pass on material from the expedition that is made available on UiT's website.

Expedition route
The expedition starts in Ilulissat on 19 May, and the Crown Prince will take part in the first part that crosses the inland ice with kite (sail) and skis as a means of transport. The expedition will visit the research station Eastgrip, where an international research team drills through the ice over 2500 meters thick. Knowledge from this research will be important for understanding how much ice will disappear from Greenland with a warmer climate.

The second part of the expedition is carried out without the Crown Prince, and will take place by kayak along parts of the east coast, in an area where a number of Norwegian hunters and researchers overwintered in the interwar years. Among these are well-known polar figures such as Helge Ingstad, Henry Rudi and John Giæver. Today, there are still many hunting grounds and cultural monuments along this coast.

On a trip to mark the Year of Volunteering
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon attended the opening of "Together on tour" in Drammen today. The event is a collaboration between several public health and outdoor life organizations to get more people out on trips around the country.

On World Activity Day, the starting shot was fired for "Together on a trip", one of the main events during the Year of Volunteering. Across the country, local teams and associations will broadly invite to activities and trips in the time ahead. The goal is to lower the threshold for participating in the many activities that are arranged every single day by voluntary organizations around Norway.

In Drammen, the Crown Prince met many volunteers who arrange various low-threshold offers and trips in the local community.

The Crown Prince crosses the Greenland ice sheet
Yesterday, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon embarked on a mediation expedition across the Greenland ice sheet. The expedition aims to help spread knowledge about polar history and the important scientific research that takes place in the Arctic.

The Crown Prince has been invited as an expedition member of UiT Norwegian Arctic University. The university has a long tradition of Arctic research and dissemination, and through the dissemination expedition "Across the Great Glacier", they mark that it is 50 years since the official opening of the university and 150 years since Tromsø Museum was established.

- It is nice to be invited by UiT to join the expedition, and a fantastic way to mark that it is fifty years since my grandfather opened the university. This is a dissemination expedition, where we will talk about polar history, Arctic outdoor life and climate research, topics I am interested in and think are important, said the Crown Prince when he arrived in Ilulissat west of Greenland this afternoon (Kalaallit Nunaat).

With the help of kites and skis, the expedition members will cross white plains up to 3000 meters thick inland ice. The Crown Prince participates in the first part of the dissemination expedition.

It starts on the inland ice at Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat), crosses the Greenland ice and comes down at Daneborg on the east coast in early June.

- We are going up on the ice and first 800 kilometers into EastGRIP. I look forward to meeting the researchers there and learning more about the research they do on climate and ice melting here in Greenland, before we travel further towards the east coast.

The trip is criticised for beeing a boys trip and not including any women, the university in Tromsø has 40% female researchers so there were many to choice from according to the loval paper in Tromsø. They think the there are to few researchers in the trip

The university says dissemination and informatin to the public about the arctic is the goal, it is not a research expedition..NRK admits their interest in the trip vame when the Cp joined the trip..nrk (that is the tax payers) is also paying for parts of it.
