And where is Princess Astrid's husband?  I know he's not an official member of the royal family, but neither is Ari Behn.

They are - they just don't perform official duties. Smiley

Where were Ragnhild and Erling?

I like how warm MM is with her kids by It feels that she handles SM who is 7 as If he's  a toddler time to let go MM ... she seems like one of these women who see themselves as moms first

Ragnhild remained in Rio when Erling went to Oslo for Gunnar Sønsteby's funeral not too long ago, afaik, and the reason then was that she was too frail to travel. She'll turn 82 in about a week's time, so it is not totally unexpected. Quite possible that Erling returned to Rio after the funeral, and did not wish to attend these events without her.

I enjoyed the pictures of Sonja's brother and his wife on the palace balcony next to Astrid and husband. It's not often we see him, and he is now in his 90s and Sonja's only living sibling, so it was nice that they included him

Oh, I didn't see that - can you post that picture?  I don't think I've ever seen Sonja's brother.  Big age difference - are they close?

Just looked up Sonja's dad on Wiki.

Karl August Haraldsen (5 April 1889 – 9 March 1959) married  Dagny Ulrichsen (1898–1994) on May 22 1920

They had four children:
Haakon Haraldsen (born 1921)
Gry Haraldsen (born 1924, died 1970) (mother of Dag Swanstrøm, former CEO of Synnøve Finden)
Karl Herman Haraldsen (1929–1936) who died in a boating accident
Sonja Haraldsen (born 4 July 1937)

So maybe Sonja was born out of the grief for her brother, no?  Cry

She was according to the authorised book written about her when she was Crown Princess, her is an article translated which deals with the death

http://www.tv2.no/underho...i-baatulykke-3546146.html
In Tuesday's Se og Hør it is  reffered to the book "Sonja - Norway's Crown Princess." Here the boating tragedy which cost Sonja's brother lives, only seven years old is discussed

 7. June 1936, just over a year before Sonja herself was born, her brother, Karl Herman died when sailing, the boat he was in exploded and burned at sea. The boy was, according to the magazine thrown overboard, together with his father, Karl August.

 Was not found

The accident occurred midway through the Oslo Fjord, on the way to Drobak. The cause of the accident, according to the book have been that the carburetor engine leaked petrol.

Only the father managed to save his life. The little boy was never found after the accident, and Sonja, who was born the following year, never got to meet her brother.

Dagny Haraldsen and Karl August, was devastated by the tragedy. According to the magazine, it is said in the book that the only thing that could help them through this difficult time, was having another child. A year later, Sonja was born

 - The little girl looked like the dead brother, according to the book

Norwegian historian Dag T. Hoelseth wrote a blog post about it, in English.

Excerpt:

Dagny and Karl Haraldsen decided that the only way to help them getting on with life again was to have another child. The labour started in the afternoon on Sunday 4 July 1937 and Karl, who had been at the beach with Haakon and Gry – it was a very warm July day – returned home around five thirty and drove his wife to the Red Cross Clinic in Frederik Stangs gate. The little boy who died had been a Sunday child (and had died on a Sunday as well, which was not commented on in the biography, though) and now it was Sunday once more. Dagny really wanted that the new child to become a Sunday child as well. The midwife thought she would make it. At 8.30 p.m. a baby girl was born. «People around me were moaning about the heat,» Mrs. Haraldsen recalled, «but I was in Heaven. I was there with the little girl. A Sunday child is supposed to be lucky, it is something especially bright with a Sunday child.» The little girl resembled her late brother. Dagny Haraldsen thought everything was meant to be.

http://www.kongehuset.no/...nyhet/vis.html?tid=101547 and http://www.nrk.no/nyheter...rikt/ostafjells/1.8214085

So this is World's End - looking on the map it doesn't seem that far out to me  Wink But it looks like a beautiful place!
