Queen Sonja of Norway attended a conference on "Integration and Gender Equality" held by Mira at Håndverkeren Conference Centre in Oslo. The MiRA (Resource Centre for Black, Immigrant and Refugee Women) is a Norwegian NGO founded in 1989, which works to improve the living conditions of immigrant and refugee women in Norway. Queen Sonja is the Patron of MIRA.

Queen Sonja of Norway made a Christmas visit to Hovseter nursing home (Hovseterhjemmet) in Oslo. The Queen met with residents of the nursing home and visited healthy living spaces like the gym in the nursing home. In addition to that, Hovseter nursing home has a library and a park with camellias. Regular activities, concerts and tours are held every week for residents of the nursing home.

King Harald has attended 24 out of 26 NM in his reign, he hardly makes any demands on the different stadiums around the country, he drinks from paper cups and stands outside in the snow for hours, and is genuinly interested, knowledgable and vêry popular in the cross country sport. Wonder if Haakon is going to keep this tradition when he takes over, hard to see, can hardly remember him at NM... probably just shows up for Holmenkollen and the big championships

Harald truly is one of a kind among royals. Haakon has big shoes to fill...

When I lived in Norway in 1986-87, Sonja was patron of the Norsk Book Club. I got a book monthly. It was a popular program. But talking to Norwegians, she was not very popular at the time. More like tolerated or barely noticed. She was doing nothing strange or controversial at the time, just being patroness of this and that. The kids were young and were popular by virtue of who they were. Harald was liked well enough. Olav was EXTREMELY popular. Like beyond. The nation was, and remains, very affectionate about Olav. But Sonja hasn't set a foot wrong and is now very popular. So, in time, they all seem to grow into their jobs. Sonja might have been a commoner, but she was from a well-to-do family, and waited 9 years to marry her prince, but she was never "common" the way MM is (to me). Makes me wonder if Haakon just should have dated MM longer. Like William did with Kate. Harald and Sonja seem to have great love and affection for each other.

All this is to say, Haakon might grow into his job as patron of this and that, once he's in the role. It's hard to say about MM.

On the second day of their state visit to Argentina, King Harald of Norway and Queen Sonja of Norway visited the Park of Memory in Plata River. The King and the Queen met with representatives of Argentinian human rights organizations there. Afterwards, Queen Sonja opened a business seminar called "Norway-Argentina, A New Partnership for Value Creation" which aims to expand the trade between Norway and Argentina.

Queen Sonja of Norway attended an event on board the Norwegian cruise ship MS Fram in New York. At the event, Queen Sonja announced the collaboration between her art foundation QSPA (Queen Sonja Print Award) and Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Express). QSPA will curate the decoration of the new ship, MS Roald Amundsen which is at the wharf in New York. MS Roald Amundsen is the first of two new explorer cruise ships being built by Kleven Maritime, for Norwegian explorer cruise line Hurtigruten. MS Roald Amundsen is scheduled to be delivered in July 2018.

Wow, pretty exiting news. I love the Hurtigruten and have done the length of Norway's coastline on one of the ships. Hope to take the new ship on one of the more adventuresome destinations.  Seeing some special art aboard would only be a plus.
