The Bergen Festival is a big cultural event. Glad to see the Queen there. When I attended it a few years back, was impressed to see a lot of people in the various audiences wearing bunads.

Harald, Sonja and Astrid hosted Afternoon Tea at the Palace. The tradition of Afternoon Tea was brought to Norway by Queen Maud and the purpose of the evening was to honor the efforts of active senior citizens across the country. The guests come from all the counties of the country and represent a wide range of interests and dedication.

Today it is also 150 years since Queen Maud was born. In her honor and on the occasion of today's event, the guests had the opportunity to visit the exhibition "The dream of Norway. King Haakon and Queen Maud in the royal collections" .

Good job Thumb up

I really don't understand why Haakon and MM don't do more of these things.

My perspective is that the king and queen chose to honor their age peers by attending. They would have so much more in common with the attendees than MM and Haakon.

I think we've to agree to disagree.

H and MM are the heirs, even if they don't act like it. I see it as an event where you honour your deceased and therefore it doesn't matter, if you're 7 oder 70.

The Luxes made something similar and even little Amalia attended.

Sonja visited Bredtveit prison and detention facility in Oslo. The prison is one of four prisons in Norway with only female prisoners. She met the prison management, staff and some of the inmates. The visit began with a presentation of the prison and its activities by prison leader Doris Bakken and assistant prison leader Siri Brock-Utne. In addition, prison chaplain Elisabeth Kjetilstad gave her a presentation of the art in the church.

Among other things, Sonja got to see two of the living quarters, the work operation and newly renovated visiting rooms with recently completed artistic decorations. In the housing department and work operation, she met inmates who talked about everyday life in prison.

In the work operation, the inmates receive training, a normal working day and contact with other inmates. Here, the staff and inmates showed her how they work with design and crafts. They also have their own hairdressing salon, Cup'n Cut, run by inmates. The prison also works closely with the NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) and schools to make the transition to life after imprisonment easier.

Quote
His Majesty King Harald of Norway is ill. The Royal Court has informed the public that for the duration of the King’s sickness, Crown Prince Haakon will be appointed as temporary regent of Norway. The Royal Court informs the public that His Majesty has a viral infection. The severity of the disease is unknown.

Previous assumptions were that the King was abroad, however, this is not correct. It was assumed on Wednesday that the King was on holiday overseas when the Crown Prince had to accept changes in the Norwegian government without his father present.

The news of His Majesty’s illness became known when Norwegian media reported that the 82-year-old monarch was no longer set to participate in the very last Cabinet meeting scheduled to take place at the Royal Palace in Oslo on Friday. As a result, Crown Prince Haakon will be in alone in the weekly meeting with the government at the Castle.

This is not the first time the Crown Prince has stepped in for the King. When King Harald became ill in April 2018 as a result of congestion and pain in one foot, Crown Prince Haakon stepped in as regent for his father during his illness.

The King has had several health challenges the recent years, and although the Crown Prince has stepped in for his father on several occasions, he has no plans to pass on his role to his son. King Harald has on several occasions stated that it is out of the question for him to abdicate. Many reacted strongly in October this year when, for the first time in his reign, King Harald had to take the elevator and did not dare to walk the stairs when he opened the Norwegian parliament.

Christmas 2018 was also marked by illness in the Norwegian royal family. At that time it was Queen Sonja who was ill and had to cancel her attendance at the traditional Christmas Day service.

Harald has looked very frail lately. Hopefully he'll recover soon.
