Harald attended the ceremony for handing over the Lappekodisillen document (The Lapp Codicil of 1751) from the National Archives to the Sami Archives in Kautokeino.

The Lappekodisillen document was signed by Denmark-Norway and Sweden in 1751 and has been crucial in establishing Sami rights. The Supreme Court of Norway ruled that it still applies today and ensures, among other things, that Sami can move reindeers across national borders

Wow, what an important document. So glad Saami people's rights are being recognized and maintained. And I loved that photo of so many young people wearing their Saami drakt. Such a change from the past's strong emphasis on assimilation and rejection of Saami culture.   Harald is looking better than he has all summer. Hoping for many more good years for him.

Is costumes the right word here? I don't want to sound patronizing...I don't know if these are called bunads as well, or what they are called but whatever you say, they are stunning and I loved the ones of all the young people in the different outfits.

Thank you for sharing that info, Bumbershoot.  I agree they are quite colorful and beautiful, different from the equally pretty bunads.  The brightly colored seating was quite a photo.  Had to look close to see how different each one was.

By coincidence I stumbled upon pictures of the 90th birthday party of Prince Carl Bernadotte.
If I am correct he is the maternal uncle of King Harald of Norway, King Albert of Belgium and related.

When looking at the old pictures of the birthday boy he reminded me of Harald.

Sonja presented the Queen Sonja's School Award 2021 to Sandnessjøen upper secondary school. The award is given every other year to a school that has demonstrated excellence in its efforts to promote inclusion and equality.
