? There is also the danger of the WINDSOR GENES setting in suddenly! It happens to almost all of them!

What Windsor genes are those??  Roll Eyes  Angel Whistle

The genes that magically transform very beautiful and very handsome Windsors into uncool entities.

BTW - I have a soft spot for Charles, Windsor genes or not, he has managed to stay cool somehow! Will - NOT so much, the genes have practically devoured him!

Me too. I think it's because he really knows how to dress. So few men do IMO.

Also his manners and obvious sense of humour. I think he is entertaining.

Yes Thumb up Especially when you compare him to Freddles. It's like comparing the NFL to the Danish football league. Quality difference.

Hmmm, very true, Maria, but still...from a British PoV...it would be more interesting than boring old Will and Kate

Itīs interesting to see how he matured the last 2-3 years. He is still not finished imo but I think itīs promising already if he continues this way. I hope he followes Annes example, because Andrew and Edward are no role models  Snare
W&K are nothing new or bring something new to the monarchy, although he seems to be more educated than his predecessors (except Charles).

Not hard to be more educated then his predecessors, other than his father. Charles was the first heir to attend university, and third member of his family. The Glouceser brothers were the first, William had a degree in history and Richard in architecture.

The cousins seem quite well educated, those not with military careers, and the heirs at least to Kent and Gloucester have impressive educations and careers, and their spouses as well (one married a pediatritian and the other an university fellow).

Bald isn't necessarily a bad thing IMO Smiley

I agree, but he is so cute as he is now - canīt we preserve him somehow? There is also the danger of the WINDSOR GENES setting in suddenly! It happens to almost all of them!

This is why it's a bad idea for frequent cousin marriages. Though it doesn't quite beat the Habsburg jaw, or Carlos II of Spain. Crap

I may be saying what we're all feeling.....

....WHY CAN'T HARRY BE HEIR TO THE THRONE?!?

I wouldn't wish that for him. I don't think he'd be the Harry we now then Smiley

I agree! I think his warmth and lightheartedness are 2 of his nicest traits. Being heir would probably change that.
I don't know what it is about Harry - when I see him smile, it makes me smile too.  Blush  Oh dear.

There's no rule that I know of that stops her from visiting, she could visit if she wants to. As one of the senior royals I think she should. but of course that's just me coming from a country who's culture is to bring all yr relatives to visit someone in hospital

I can name at least two heirs who attended university before Charles - both Edward VII and Edward VIII - neither graduated but both attended.

In the latter half of the 20th C it became the norm to send the royal children to real schools and then to have them go to uni - rather than simply be educated at home.

Four of the six of The Queen's adult grandchildren have degrees.  Eugenie will have shortly as she is finishing her final year at the moment making five out of six of the grandchildren will have degrees within months. Harry is the only one who doesn't have a degree because he didn't get the grades to go to university.  Peter Philips has a degree in Sports Science, Zara in Equine Physiotherapy, William in Geography and Beatrice in History and History of Ideas.  Eugenie is doing a triple subject in her degree - English Literature, Politics and Art History.  Edward also has a degree in History.

My point is that there have only been two generations where going to school and university is the norm and as a result of that of the 10 adult decendents of the Queen 7 have, or will shortly have, degrees.  The normal education path for royals has changed, from home education to formal school based education like the rest of the nation.

My wording on Charles was bad, I meant to say to graduate, thanks for the correction. We were making the same point, that a public formal education, and not just that, but going on for university, is a more recent change in the royal circles.

Edward VII's did attend university but not in the way we think of it today. He under went private tutoring, and not the public classrooms Charles, and more recent royals have. Edward VIII did go to normal classes like Charles, but he did poorly and left after 8 terms, with no academic qualifications.

Neither Anne or Andrew pursued higher education. Edward recieved a degree, coming fourth in the family (after Charles, and the two Gloucester brothers)

I didn't include the other grandchildren as the original post was about Prince William and his predecessors (heirs before him). I agree, the queen's grandchildren have all been well educated, Harry has a good military education from Sandhurst. I did comment on the spouses of their cousins, in comparison, as Kate was also mentioned. While she has a degree, she had no career, no real experience. Where the heirs of Kent and Gloucester have married a doctor and professor, and they themselves have quite impressive careers as well. I assume like Peter, knowing they are so far from the throne, they realize they need to make a way for themselves in the world, even if heirs to a duchy, which is commendable.
