Wow that one pic of Eddie when he was a young man is a looker.
My My, those Windsor genes are hard on the lads, aren't they? Giving them a window of 20 minutes in which they are mouthwateringly handsome and then  woosh  it is rapidly going downhill for the horse faces...

I don't think that's E-VIII. Hairline and color is wrong, profile not right, etc. Did the source you got this from notate the man wrong?

The pic theme would be right in line with David's mummy issues, though.

The prince is in drag, something to do with crossing the Equator while at sea.  There's another photo of a group of them, with Lord Louis (at the time), with someone draped in seaweed.  All very jolly.

I'm glad it wasn't just the two of them! The photo came from

http://www.retronaut.com/

It's great. All kinds of historic images, old adverts, medieval stuff, all kinds of things. I highly recommend it. Here are two others I found there.

Oh yes, you're absolutely right! Now I see it. Sorry for being so dense.

It's still a screwed up tableau.

I remember a professor of mine who once was in the US navy, on a submarine. He said when ever it was the first time a sailor crossed the equator, there was a bit of a hazing ceremony, all in good humor. Sounds like the Brits once had the tradition too, nice to see a royal prince didn't escape it. Supercontent

The "line-crossing ceremony" is a couple of hundred years old.
