Nothing terrible would have to happen......just a lot of incompetence and/or indifference. Also, I’m not thinking about an official king — just in practice, behind the scenes. Stranger things have happened in royal history.

Even a sort of soft coup as in the change in succession in 1953 would not be unthinkable.

Five incompetent and/or indifferent people in a row?  That's about the time even this Royalist would say, "Maybe it's time to let the monarchy go..."

That is a great gif, Antevorta!  Star

But given the convoluted logic, maybe a photo of a corkscrew would have worked too!

I really like those photos. He looks really good, but he also looks more like himself, if that makes sense.

I suspect Nikolai is a lot happier NOT being the future king anyway.

In his current position, he gets the majority of the privileges that come with being the Queen's grandson and having the "Prince of Denmark' title (connections, wealth, education, opportunities etc), but unlike Christian and Izzy (I suspect she will be a working royal like Jokke/Marie are now), he gets the freedom to do what he wants with his life.

H. H. Prince Nikolai started yesterday as a student at the lieutenant education at Hærens Sergentskole in Varde.

The school educates future leaders and intermediaries for the Army, and the Prince and the other Sergeant students became the first day, for example, introduced to school and education.

Why anybody would be consumed with envy at not being the heir to the throne is beyond me. Seriously to be that high up the social ladder without the responsibilities is the real jackpot. The have all the privileges, the status, the opportunities without most of the strings attached. Perfect.
Niko can be anything he can dream of: his family has all the connections to pull any string possible: wanna be a cowboy? Well how about a horse ranch in OZ or US? (Ah no, I don't thing immigration would be an issue, none of the royals ever had a problem with "living and working" in the US)
Turning gay? Probably impossible for his cousin Xian, but not for him.
Going on an expedition to Antarctica? Yeah, well ask Harry for a referral.
Meeting ..the Pope, a world famous athlete, rockstar or Hollywooder? Not a problem, get an invite to their party or get backstage to their gigs.. or have them over for dinner.

August 15
Nikolai got a visit from his parents, as he stood to attention for the celebrations on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the Military School Hærens Sergent.

Why is an effeminate demeanour something to be disliked?

I dislike effeminacy in men, so sue me.  There female members of his family more masculine than him.

Not seeing what's effeminate here?
A young face?
Calling looking like a woman bad isn't exactly helpful
