All of these beautiful photos of Paola make me sort of wistful for a time when royal women, and women in general (and men too, for that matter) had more of a magic and a mystique about them; Paola, Grace, Jacqueline Kennedy, etc. had a mysterious, elegant, remote quality that Mary/Kate/Mette-Marit can't touch or ever hope to emulate. I suppose this is just part of my overall fascination with the past (I'm a historian by background) and I'm sure I'm idealising the earlier royals, but it's hard not to be disappointed by the current crop (with the exception of Letizia, generally).
I agree with you 100%. I even said that on another Royals Board and almost got my head taken off.

I'm sorry but it's the
truth...these women don't have the special spark that those 50's and 60's icons like Paola, Grace, Jackie, Farah Diba of Iran had. They seemed to have an aura of mystery about them.
In all fairness to the current crop, there is no longer any such thing as privacy or mystery or true glamour, thanks to the Internet and the Information Age. EVERYTHING about these Princesses, their lives and their pasts are common knowledge, unlike with Royal and famous women of that bygone era.
