I always read that these houses have long leases. I remember reading that Andrew had some long lease, like 50 years, on Royal Lodge? I thought the point of the lease was so you couldn’t get kicked out. Unless there is some morality clause or something.
Andrew has a 75 year lease. I believe he's 22 years into the lease or something like that. The lease CAN be broken, but if it's done before 25 years, I think Andrew has to be paid over a million dollars or something.

What a horrible photo of them, something is really wrong there, Camilla looking so thin , Charles having such short legs!
By the way, I have read that Charles wants Andrew to leave the Royal Lodge and move to Frogmore Cottage. Quite a good decision, why should a single disgraced brother live in a 30 bedroom house by himself? Ridiculous, especially when William and his family with three children and nannies are squeezing into Adelaide Cottage!
Maybe it is the future plan of Charles to get William and family into Royal Lodge, which as heirs to the throne and represenatives of the Kingdom are well deserving.
I agree it makes sense for W&K to have Royal Lodge. But I will also point out that the Queen Mum occupied Clarence House, Royal Lodge and Birkhall all by herself from when Margaret married in 1960 until her death in 2002. Different times and circumstances, maybe, but still. "Different times and circumstances" says it all! Exactly. We are not living in the 19th or 20th century, everything was different then. Charles would be wise to change a lot if he wants to save the monarchy! What will happen if all the older people die, mainly those who have supported them always? The younger generation is taking over, which is allright. They still are very very privileged, and I oftern wonder about the complaints of Andrew. When the Queen died last year, she surely left a lot of money (privately owned) to all her children. A fact that is never mentioned, but I am sure that she made her will a long time ago and none of her children got less money than the others. Therefore I cannot really understand why Andrew is complaining that he cannot keep up the maintenance of Royal Lodge if Charles doesn't pay him the duchy money. He surely has money and assets in the background. Those royals are all rich, I am sure. Correct me if I am wrong... I think one of the problems with Andrew is that he doesn’t have a wealthy mindset, wealthy people are notoriously stingy. That’s how they stay wealthy. Remember the shock people expressed when that footman circulated photos of the Queen’s breakfast table, complete with Tupperware and a Roberts radio? Wealthy mindset. Princess Anne wearing dresses from the. 1970s? Wealthy mindset. Truly rich people are happy to be scruffy and unfashionable because they own everything. Andrew just expects money to come in and then it flows out again, endlessly. Always new, always fancy, always more. In a way it doesn’t matter how much his mother left him because unless she left it in a trust that pays him a regular income but doesn’t let him touch the principal he will run through it faster than water.

I think Andrew's lease was for 75 years. I think there are different kinds of wealthy people. The queen had the right values and nothing to prove and knew the wisdom of thrift and frugality and understood that showing off wealth was not done. Andrew acts like it grows on trees. At least he's not driving a Maserati around Windsor Great Park with a 25 year old blonde like if Fred were a second son with bottomless income.

Not that it is the concern of Charles, but what about Fergie? I guess they can throw her out but she really is a menace to the family when she is left on her own…drinking too much, selling access…I guess if Andrew moves into Frogmore, Sarah will get a room? Or maybe she can move in with one of her daughters.

Sarah isn’t back in the fold but I’m sure she is more kindly regarded now. She is Prince Andrew’s de facto wife so she’ll move with Andrew surely…

It might have been Andrew's wish: Let's face it - I think neither Bea or Eugenie would be in a financial position to take over the big country house. I think a big country house is fun if you are into country sports, dinner parties and have the money for staff to maintain it: You need several housekeepers, gardeners ... Bea is the typical London girl IMO.
Now that Andrew has been cut off - what is he doing. Heating the thing during the winter months is a massive issue, especially with today's fuel prices. As he has rented it and does not own it you can't go down the route and market it off ... so he might have been forced to give it up.

Two very important visits. I'm split on Versailles (is that a bad look) but it also sounds like it'll be really cool. Does France normally host foreign leaders there (I've been as a tourist so assumed it was strictly that now)?

https://www.zeit.de/gesel...s-deutschlandbesuch-maerzIt was announced today in one of our big national papers. Sorry, only in German. Charles and Camilla will visit Berlin, Brandenburg and Hamburg, there will be a reception at Belluevue Castle by German president Steinmeir, more details haven't been published so far. The visit is important to maintain the good relations between both countries after Brexit.

I hope Cams drips diamonds. She wouldn't even have to dive into the vault, unless she wants to surprise us. I won't argue if she does! Cams has has the Delhi Durbar and the Greville Tiara, and the Greville Festoon Necklace, which would do splendidly. I found this bit on about Versailles Wiki: Modern political and ceremonial functions
The palace still serves political functions. Heads of state are regaled in the Hall of Mirrors; the bicameral French Parliament—consisting of the Senate (Sénat) and the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale)—meet in joint session (a congress of the French Parliament) in Versailles to revise or otherwise amend the French Constitution, a tradition that came into effect with the promulgation of the 1875 Constitution. For example, the Parliament met in joint session at Versailles to pass constitutional amendments in June 1999 (for domestic applicability of International Criminal Court decisions and for gender equality in candidate lists), in January 2000 (ratifying the Treaty of Amsterdam), and in March 2003 (specifying the "decentralized organization" of the French Republic).
In 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy addressed the global financial crisis before a congress in Versailles, the first time that this had been done since 1848, when Charles-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte gave an address before the French Second Republic. Following the November 2015 Paris attacks, President François Hollande gave a speech before a rare joint session of parliament at the Palace of Versailles. This was the third time since 1848 that a French president addressed a joint session of the French Parliament at Versailles. The president of the National Assembly has an official apartment at the Palace of Versailles.

I remember V. Putin being welcomed by Emmanuel Macron some years ago in the Marble Cour Royale during an official visit for example. The palace and the Trianon estates are closed to tourists on Mondays so March 27th is probably the day. Also it's not revealed yet but I would bet the dinner will be in the Hall of Mirrors

Versailles is amazing and it's funny how such a republican country like France is super into its royal past. With the right stage set we will see some incredible pictures come out of there. I hope Cam is definitely dripping in diamonds.

Versailles is my response to those who say the loss of the royal family would hit tourism. People would still visit Buckingham Palace if we got rid of the monarchy.

If anything, they would likely bring in more money because more castles would be available to tour, private homes could be turned into museums... there is a lot more money to make by abolishing the monarchy.
