There is maybe a silver lining here to get better communications and surveillance of patients with these mood altering medicines. I'm a big believer in better living through chemistry but monitoring is so important. Not all people react the same way to all medications like this and there are phases for ramping up and down when different pills are prescribed. I hope others will benefit from this tragedy surely the family will find solace in that.

I am glad good has come from Thomas's death, though I believe that his high profile had a lot to do with it. Sad for all the families who have suffered losses like that.

I believe in better living through chemistry with a healthy dose of caveat emptor.

I've a friend - a retired nurse who was taking an arthritis drug which stopped working and sent her pulse ox plummeting. She had to be on oxygen, a tank, as the small portable systems do not provide what she needed, for a year while the drug was cleared from her system.
We started our amputee cat on a drug that blocked nerve pain last fall. It turns out that in some cats, amputees being part of the group, it causes sores around the neck and head tremors. They only tested the drug on healthy cats you see. He's still gradually recovering and is now on an OTC medication for arthritis.
