Charles and Diana only meet 13 times and it was before they were married not engaged.

I knew it was something insane like that.

I think a lot of marriages used to work this way - you picked someone considered suitable. My grandparents went out three times before they got engaged. They even ended up happily.

Charles is "old school" - he expected to marry Di and have affairs. His problems was that Di was modern and expected a loving, doting husband.

Honestly if I had married The Prince of Wales, or another Windsor man, I would never have expected him to be faithful to me. That simply doesn't run in the family genes.  Wink

Perhaps had Diana been a little older and somewhat wiser in the ways of the Windsor world, she may have learnt to turn a blind eye. Poor thing would most likely be alive today.

It doesn't run in a lot of men's genes.

I think it was more a lifestyle - you married someone who was suitable and then you had your little affairs.

Very true on all counts.

Yes there certainly were.
She was addicted to heroin and alcohol as well as suffering from anorexia and bulimia. Some cocktail! Anyway she is clean now, and she looks much better.
Here is an article about her from the Daily Mail:

I might not go so sugary as to say Victoria looks like "an older sister than a mother of five," but good for her that she is managing her addictions.   Champagne
Earl Spencer is such a dirt bag, JMHO.   He's very intelligent; can write well, but what an emotional abuser of his wives (from what I've read about his life).   Yes, he had a somewhat traumatic childhood but get some therapy and don't take it out on your wives.    *cough cough William cough cough*

I remember the dress got some serious criticism at the time and I believe the designer said they soaked the fabric in household bleach to get it to match the stone work on the church and being a model Victoria had strong ideas of how she wanted the dress to look.

She really didn't have the personality for the idea, plus it didn't help that she was so skeletal and looked so ill because of it.

Given her family and her upbringing, she should have been more than aware of how things were supposed to work!! Let's not forget, she admitted to at least two affairs herself......

They were the first Royal couple to experience the glare and scrutiny of the modern media, and many think it was this intrusiveness that broke down the facade of royal marriages.

Also IMO she has a dreadful posture in those pics, when seeing them the first time I couldn't believe she was (supposedly) a model.
