They had lots of affection, yes, plus they had each other. But Fred insists on sticking to his 'poor, lille rich kid' self image whereas Joachim grew up.

I find it interesting how the generel agreement seems to be that Fred was always fragile, also as a kid, which is why Joachim was the big brother in their pseudo twins relationship. I can't help but wondering if this is the closest we get to a public statement that Derf has always had some kind of problem. Hasn't he himself described it as 'depressionlike'?

They were a true love match and had a great partnership. I know his behaviour was a bit off base sometimes but he was a man of his generation that way.  I hope Fred and Joachim put aside their childhood feelings and look objectively at their parents' marriage and realize though however hard it must have been, they put that relationship before anything else including being parents to their sons sometimes.

Just watched this tv program which I assume was made to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary. Very moving documentary about Daisy and Henrik. These are the versions online I could find but sadly no English subtitles. If someone can find one, post it here.

Handsome, but food and wine destroyed him pretty fast.
