Lady Elizabeth Shakerley, daughter of a Bowes Lyon first cousin to the Queen, has died.  She handled many of the biggest royal parties since 1960.  She grew up in the Hague, since her mother had as a second husband Prince Georg of Denmark, who himself was first cousin to the kings of Belgium and Norway.  Very interesting life.  Very interesting connections.

Beatrix of the Netherlands was a godmother to Elizabeth's daughter.  When said daughter got married, Beatrix actually skipped Felipe & Letizia's wedding to attend her god-daughter's!

This is a really interesting fact! It helps to explain the closeness between the BRF and the Dutch royal family!

Au contraire, I haven't noticed a particular closeness between those two families.  Beatrix and Sofia of Spain always seem like besties to me --each other's Plus One at most royal events.  If anything, the "closeness" with the Brits would be more due to their Aunt Alice of Athlone.

Lady Elizabeth was part of the "British contingent" to attend Grand Duke Jean's funeral in Luxembourg last year. She was walking with a stick and appeared frail. Her stepfather Prince Georg had also been a first cousin of GD Jean's late wife GD Josephine-Charlotte. She was a well-connected lady. She had the gift of being friendly and chatty and giving bits of information in interviews ("the Queen checks all the place settings personally") but not actually ever saying anything controversial.

There's a bit of similarity between Simon and Eugenie. Not a striking resemblance mind you, but enough that you can tell they are related.

I don't see any resemblance between Simon Bowes-Lyon and any of the Windsors.  He has dark hair like Eugenie, but that's about the extent of the resemblance IMO.

Wow!  He sounds like an entitled little jerk. I guess he and Andrew can commiserate about how unfair life is to deviants.

On a purely shallow note, the guy in the DM picture doesnít look like the guy from Cyrilís post back in December.
