Funny how they shut down the comments. Hmmm. Anywho...

Compared to the current Harry? For the times, Old Harry's* behavior was scandalous; for the times, Lady Alice was "long in the tooth." I don't really think you can compare then with now. All four of the sons of GV and Mary were colossally screwed up in their ways, and fueled further by the "racy" times they lived in.

However, despite the "for the time" qualifier, and the suggestion that Old Harry's behavior was "worse," it doesn't really excuse the current Prince Harry's stupid behavior. Time to grow up, Harry!

Two somewhat related thoughts:
1) Old Henry resembled his brother Albert (aka George VI) very strongly, very dorky and awkward facial features. QM's genes, fortunately, fizzled out in the males of the family; can't say the same for the females (Elizabeth, Anne, Louise). Old Henry's son William was devastatingly handsome, son Richard inherited the dorky looks... but Richard's children and grandchildren are some seriously handsome folks.
2) Old Henry's arrogance in his treatment of the hired help continues in full swing in the current generation of royals (remember Charles and the pee bottle?). Some things never change.

*Yes, DM commenter, Henry of Gloucester was indeed called "Harry," particularly by his father. In public, he was not. It would likely have been considered "disrespectful" in certain quarters and (again) in those days.

All of George v son's had serious problems. David with his penchant for married woman, Bertie with his stammer, Henry, and George who had a fairly serious drug problem. None especially bright.  Sad

The Duke of Kent was actually very bright, much moreso than his brothers. He was apparently top of his classes at Broadstairs, fluent in several languages, and a very keen artist and musician. I think if he'd been sent on to Eton instead of naval college, like his father insisted, his life would've taken a different turn. Apparently, he was the only child for whom Queen Mary actually tried to intervene with her husband about when it came to military, but as always, George V got his way.

I thought both Henry and George went to Eton. I know the older two went to naval college.
George may have been bright compared to his brothers, but had problems with drug addiction, and was rumoured to be be bi-sexual even having an affair with Noel Coward.
It wasn't until the lovely Marina of Greece appeared on the scene that he became more respectable. I know he and Queen Mary shared a love of antiques.

He was definitely bisexual, not rumored to be, and definitely into drugs.  His eldest brother tried to get him out of all that, maybe one of the few good things he did in his life.

Seagull, I like the fact that you like the videos about Prince Henry and Princess Alice. They performed many royal duties.

Don't know how accurate this is, but the royalfoibles author recently wrote an article about the two of them:

I saw that all somewhere else, so I think its all pretty much true. Another arranged royal marriage between people who had nothing in commmon.
