Prince Henry's military career was put on hold in 1936 when his eldest brother Edward VIII abdicated and he was required to share the Royal Family's duties.

Seeing this photo, reminded me - the book, The Quest For Queen Mary, has an excellent chapter on James Pope-Hennessey's interview with Henry Duke of Gloucester, for Queen Mary's bio.  He stayed at Barnwell Manor for the purpose of interviewing Henry.
The whole book is an excellent read but learning something new about Henry was a bonus.
